Mad Max - Fury Road. And other road movies.

So lets have a thread recommending top motoring movies.

How about some retro stuff that I've revisited recently?

Vanishing Point (the Barry Newman original from about '75)

Gone in 60 Seconds (again the 70's one)

both epic!!

Gumball Rally

Pretty good - even if it just to hear a Daytona being thrashed all the way through the movie.

Le Mans (Steve McQueen)

Grand Prix (James Garner)

2 of the best racing films ever.

'Gumball Rally'!!

Yes!!, someone else who's actually heard of it

The scene with the Cobra & Daytona racing in the Los Angeles River storm--drains

Absolutely superb

'Gone in 60 Seconds'

You've still got to rate the Nic Cage remake, if only for Eleanor (& a blonde Angelina Jolie!)

Bullitt  -  not really a driving film but has the epic Mustang chase

Cannonball run - for the cars and Adrienne Barbeau and pal in lurex jumpsuits

'Bullitt'

Both absolutely iconic cars, the '68 Mustang GT390 (in 'Highland Moss'), & the '69 Dodge Charger (same age & model as General Lee)

TT - Life on the Edge

Isn't cars or a road movie but is a fantastic documentary and shows quite clearly just how unhinged TT racers have to be.

Barking, but not mad!!

Insanely brave, but not insane

Not a car movie, but Convoy is superb.

The opening sequence is cinematically superb

Through the sands of Arizona

Only downfall, is the reflection of the lights onto the Mack (RS700) door, when RD is passed, by Ali McGraw

Still one of my top-10 favourite films, & getting on for 40 years since it came out

If we're talking 'Convoy', how about 'Smokey & The Bandit'?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0OflL0INck

It had one of the biggest box-office stars of the time (Burt Reynolds), an iconic comedian (Jackie Gleason), & Jerry Reed (he wrote some music, sang it in)

(digressing slightly, Reed also wrote 'Gutar Man', & played guitar on the Presley recording. He also wrote 'A Thing Called Love', as covered by Johnny Cash)

Someone mentioned 'Two-Lane Blacktop'

Dennis Wilson (of Beach Boys) as the mechanic, & James Taylor (the singer/song-writer) as the driver

The cars are the same '55s as used in 'American Grafitti'

This film was the breakthrough for Harrison Ford, & Richard Dreyfuss (Charles Martin Smith was also in it)

And................ of course, it features Wolfman Jack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for Smokey & Grafitti. I now have a plan for this afternoon (after the footy finishes (at 2PM here))

I think my Vegas hangover will be able to cope with those flicks by then.

Was it 'Ronin', with a good chase sequence??

How about the first 2 'Dukes of Hazzard' movies
No!, not the Jessica Simpson film

A few years prior to that, they made original cast films
'Hazzard Homecoming' & 'Hazzard in Hollywood' (should be on YouTube (I have both on a VHS tape)

Sadly Sorrell Booke died before the first one, so Roscoe was 'Boss', working from plans that JD Hogg had left

Second film, Denver Pyke had died, & that was about recovering some tapes that Daisy had, from crooked music moguls (plus other hi-jinks!)
Worth watching, if you loved the TV series

And, with 'Convoy', & 'Smokey & The Bandit' being mentioned, does anyone else remember 'BJ & The Bear'??

Is it possible to link straight to YouTube on here, & open a 'box' with the clip??
