Mad Max - Fury Road. And other road movies.

So lets have a thread recommending top motoring movies.

How about some retro stuff that I've revisited recently?

Vanishing Point (the Barry Newman original from about '75)

Gone in 60 Seconds (again the 70's one)

both epic!!

Gumball Rally

Pretty good - even if it just to hear a Daytona being thrashed all the way through the movie.

Le Mans (Steve McQueen)

Grand Prix (James Garner)

2 of the best racing films ever.

I've just seen that MMFR is the second highest earning movie in the UK this week. A lot of disappointed punters I expect. The trailer was fine but the movie was a massive let down. No plot, no acting, no action beyond the trailer - and all the best stuff was in the first 20 minutes. Should never have brought Max back. I hope the next STAR WARS from Disney isnt this bad.

Thankfully it was free- the only film I paid to see was San Andreas this week. WOW! Might well go again to see it on IMAX. That will be truly awesome.

Mad Max is worth it even if just too see those crazy cars they built for the movie IMHO.

And the stunts are real, not much CGI.

I think it was a perfectly good movie for braindead action and nice sounding cars.

Bullitt  -  not really a driving film but has the epic Mustang chase

Cannonball run - for the cars and Adrienne Barbeau and pal in lurex jumpsuits

I was pretty surprised at just how bad Mad Max was too. It's basically a 2 hour car chase without much else going on. The designs on the cars and costumes were all quite cool and looked very different, but I would of appreciated some sort of plot even if it was just a small one.

TT - Life on the Edge

Isn't cars or a road movie but is a fantastic documentary and shows quite clearly just how unhinged TT racers have to be.

I was a bit young to fully appreciate those jumpsuits at the time!

Did anybody else like the NEED FOR SPEED movie last year? Surprisingly good IMO.

Blues Brothers must count just for the record breaking chase at the end.

There's quite a few Japanese ones if you can find them not much plot but the cars are good

Nothing to do with cars but The Mission with Robert De Nero & Jeremy Irons is AWESOME.

GREAT cinematography, GREAT plot FANTASTIC acting BEAUTIFUL scenery and an INCREDIBLE musical score written by Ennio Morricone

Listen to this and tell me you're not moved.
