Humming/monotone sound while driving

Featured Replies

Hi I think I have the same sound in my TSI110.

Very faint sound from the centre of the instrument panel, reminding me of the sound from the radar ppi when I was sailing.

Guess it's from some electronic device, and only highly sensitive people will notice it.

Nothing to worry about.

Seem to have that on wife's new Polo 1.2TSI 110 - strange, there must be a fix for that noise being heard in the cabin, I was going to touch the brakes just to make sure it was not coming from the discs, but both times that I've heard it I was in heavy traffic.

Hello guys,i heard from a other forum that users are having problem with the A/C compressor making some noise. After only 100-200km...

I ll try to have some extra informations

The sound

I could only hear something happening in the first link and was that not just "beating" ie when the "peaks" of two noises of different frequencies coincide ?

Yesterday I drove a 700 km trip with an average speed of 101 kmh, meaning a bit on the speedticket side if there ever was a traffic police on the roads here.

But I really tried to give attention to different sounds, alone in the car and no artificial sounds turned on.

What I heard was a wind noise which I think emanated from the B-pillar at speeds beyond 120 kmh and the fan which had to do a hard work in the outside 29ºC heat. Thank god for AC.

Nothing noticed besides that. And I wore my hearing aids... :D

pfaff, so for new 1.2TSI 110 engine cars, the trick is to drive at a proper speed!  Seriously though, this does seem to be turning out to be only an issue with the later batch of 1.2TSI 110 engines, maybe that is why they are stopping making them!  I am very happy with the engine in wife's Polo, so far, but would like to work out what/why these strange noises are!

Edit:- sorry, and a 1.2TSI 90 !

Leave the wife at home?

:D

I got a call from my dealer saying that there is a service bulletin about something with a active carbon filter, and the shape being such that sometimes a whistling sound can be heard (This was after I had it at the dealers' to sort out a rattling rear mirror and other noices). To me this is sound is not so disturbing that I feel it worth to leave the car for a separate visit, but they will fix it during the next service, so I still do not know if this will fix the sound I am sometimes hearing. Might be worth checking with your dealer about this

:D

In light of the latest posting that is not funny at all, just how do you think I will know if it is the carbon fume box thing if my wife is not sitting strapped to the open bonnet - is there a plan B perhaps?

Seriously it also sounds like a bored parking sensor system warning, but as luck would have it, sun is out, fan is running at high speed to keep car cool - can't hear this noise now!

  • 1 month later...

I am still hearing these noises in wife's Polo 1.2TSI 110, it seems to start, from cold, at the 2 miles mark, this noise "runs" for a minute or two, stops then starts again some time later.  Has anyone bothered to approach their dealer over this issue and if so has it been covered, as in Finland with a TSB concerning the carbon fume cylinder purging?
