Autocar Website Skoda Article

Featured Replies

This might link into the Skoda Snobbery thread HERE but I didn't want ot hijack it.

I was browsing the Autocar website a few minutes ago and came across THIS article. The guy that wrote it had the Octavia Estate on long term test and also wrote the new vRS report too.

It makes for interesting reading.

[NOTE: I don't like the look of the URL for the article so if it doesn't work go to their website and look for "Viv's Guide to..." and find the Skoda one.]

You've only got to look at the guys head , no wonder he talks sh*te.

Steve

I think the point the guy is trying to make in his personnal column, is that no matter how good the cars are, there will always be those who cannot shake off the old ideas. Either that or he has a duel personnality :) His review of the new vRS had nothing but praise.

Great, love it, the longer Skoda has this tag the longer they remain out of the clutches of Burger King cruisers and 'Ford Focus' families. Keep them exclusive to those in the know, that way I can remain smug for longer, knowing I have a quality car for not much buck.

Look at the guys age ( old fart :) )

Although if posts on here are anything to go by, it appears to be a generation thing, AND the numbers of Octy estates that the police have, I think even they must be changing attitude.

On the flip side, the longer we have the people who perpetuate the old image of the brand, the longer the enlightened owners can still look hard when out driving for another enlightened skoda owner.

He said the car was good and the brand was crap - we all know this, anyone who tries to argue otherwise is in denial.

Brand is not crap any longer either IMHO - true, there are still some that dislike the brand, but several people who are hung up on brand actually were impressed with the car and some of them have purchased Skodas of various flavours since.

My feeling is that the Skoda brand has come a long way, but it's not for everyone. Don't feel like I'm in denial, the vRS versions are definitely excellent value (Fab & Octy)

Well, I've just bought my first Skoda, a felicia, so not even one of the current models and so far _no one_ has taken the p*ss, in fact most of the comments I've had have been along the lines of "they're good cars now arn't they ?" so I think atitudes are changing, but it has only been a week so pleant of time yet. :)

I am on my 4th Skoda, so no one could say l dont like the cars, l would even say l like the brand, but l have to agree with him, l HATE the logo, it does look like something left in a hankie :finger:

Of course Skoda still has an image problem, just as Lada and Reliant did.

All the time they do, I shall be able to get a decent value for money car.Yes, Skoda UK are trying desperately to climb the image ladder, witness the dealership changes and with it the hike in servicing costs. But does snassy dealerships make a good image? Not in my mind.

So keep the crap image, I dont care because that does'nt bother me.

I remember seeing a broken down, rusted, heap of a car at the side of the road where the owner had obviously given up on it and abandoned it. He had sprayed down the side of it - 'Jap Scrap'. It was 25 years ago. It was also a Toyota. The people who brought us Lexus! Oh how times change. And as for the reviewers 'pampered, image concious shores' I can only assume he lives somewhere else or he wouldn't dare have his photo taken looking such a p***k.

Destroys the opposition,great car,great everything.Everything but a good 'image'.Oh well,can't have everything can we :D

Destroys the opposition

I don't think that's true any more!

Chris

It's what he said.Well ,he said " Destroyed the competition" :P

I think with skoda, you either buy and chill out or if you are image conscious, buy something else.

Doesn't matter at the end of the day.I would love an Alfa Romeo on my drive. That would be an image choice though ;) I would prefer a car that (in my mind!) is pretty sturdy, even if it isn't Alfa' pretty'.

Next car will be skoda though.Must say something :)

Yep, you're brand loyal, rather than going for the best car available at the time ;)

I can't afford a mondy

I'm so not hung up about it that my next car may not be a Skoda

When the time comes to buy another vehicle, new or second-hand, I'll have a look at what we need from it. I've always bought cars that way. When I bought the Furby vRS it was just the best value for money package for our requirements that was around. It probably isn't going to last for much longer, but then that's a good thing :)
