Another UK rip off

Featured Replies

UK packs of Castrol Edge to VW 507 all seem to be 4ltr size, German packs are 5ltr and cheaper....

Maybe Lidl or Aldi  should sell engine oil. Juat a thought.

They do, and good oil.  Engine Oil.

just like Tesco, Asda,  Morrisons, Sainsuburys etc.

So they will have Castrol and maybe Shell and then Bottles and Containers with their Brand or others on the label.

You can often get VW 502 00,  VW 504 00 , VW 505 / 507 00 Fully Synthetic and Long Life and it is good oil from good oil producers

that obviously are not a 'Own Brand Bean or Digestive Biscuit ' maker.

Proper Oil for proper Petrol & Diesel Car Engines, look for stuff that is for Ford, BMW, Mercedes. VW / Audi etc to the spec you need.

Value for money and not penny pinching, just feeding the accounts of some other corporation that is not Castrol.

I think my car takes 4.3 litres so a 4 litre bottle would be frustrating when attempting to refill the engine after a DIY oil change.

The German retailer you have used will be paying for shipping and making a little profit too so you are right oil over there must be cheaper.

When I asked them they sent a link to Castrol Edge

Shell Helix Ultra Professional AV-L 5W-30?

That's pretty good.

£25.96 - 10% = £23.36.

Mind you there is £4.99 to put back on for shipping, so £28.35.

Opie doesnt list an oil for mine

Of course they do.

I make it 11 products, from 4 to 6 litre packs.

What exactly are you looking for?

Search for 507.00 (5W-30 Fully Synthetic)

Popping across to France shortly and will check the price of synthetic oil (5w-30) in Carrefour. Oil is usually very cheap in the supermarkets, Mobil1 or their own brand.

Assuming you have the 1.6 CR105 diesel engine then as mentioned above the most important spec you need to find is the VW 507.00 spec on the container.

This oil meets the requirements as stipulated by Skoda for all their diesel engines fitted with DPF's (Diesel Particulate Filters).

The reason is the oil has a low ash content which makes life easier for the DPF. It is also a long life oil (fully synthetic) but due to the DPF it must be used whether the car is on fixed or variable service intervals.

That doesn't seem to be a 507.00 oil?

Ignore me, was looking at wrong spec on Shell website :)  Nice find.
