Octavia Scout - First Impressions/Drive

Featured Replies

So for the past years I had an Alfa Romeo Giulietta, fully speced up, which over the 3 years I gradually learnt to love...

I was very skeptible on if I would like the style and drive of the Octavia, mainly due to its previous old history.

My moon white Skoda Octavia Scout auto 2.0 Diesel arrived yesterday and my first impressions was Wow, it looks much better in the flesh (I even had a friend look at it from a distance and think it was Audi, which cannot be a bad thing!).

Interior is also a big surprise and beats the Fully spec'ed Giulietta in pretty much all departments. From making sure the controls are all positioned with ease/practical access to the design, it simply oozes with a business like feel.

The main purpose we bought this car was to have the extra space in the rear and boot, again the scout does not disappoint. An obvious massive difference to the Giulietta!

I have room to get 2 buggies and a suitcase into the boot where as I could just about get 1 buggy and a small suitcase in the Giuliettas boot.

The drive is also much better than the Giulietta.

For a bigger car it packs a real punch when putting your foot down and the economy is naturally far better - I averaged 46mpg on an hour journey yesterday with A road and some city driving.

Duty calls with the kids so I need to keep this short, but all I can say I am very very impressed thus so far!!

Seems like everyone is impressed with their Scouts so far!

Mine is delivered Friday, it's been a long 12 weeks!

Great stuff, glad you like it, we have a candy white scout 150 on order for late-aug.

You really must share some pictures after all that bragging..??? ;-)

Let us know how you get on - The scout is on my shortlist!

Mine got to Grimsby midweek, I'm hoping for collection this week,

Stevesherwood - you *in* Sherwood, Nottingham?

I will do!

I came from an Alfa too, and while I agree the Skoda beats most, including the Alfa hatches on space and practicality, there's no contest in my eyes for which is better to look at. The Alfa.

We bought an Octavia 2  2.0 FSi Estate after a string of Alfas and yes, the Alfas were stunning looking with characterful engines but I what surprised me about the Skoda was how much more capable at covering ground, especially challenging B roads, is was than our most recent Alfa (a 156). We sold our Octavia after 7 years but we now need a capable and practical family car again an are hopefully taking delivery of a new Scout within the next week or so.  Really looking forward to it now after waiting 3 months but it is a shame Alfa have nothing to offer in this sector at the moment.

Your Scout looks great in white by the way.

Great pics, thanks, looking forwards to ours in white even more now!

I was so close to getting one opted for vrs in the end, but i agree it was such a nice car to drive - I even prefer the scout interior to the vrs...I did prefer the optional wheels though - only went vrs as the lease deal was about £13 more a month.

Glad your enjoying it, my neighbor has had 2 Giulietta's over the last few years although they are nice inside its just not for me - he has the hateful auto as well...just nasty, quiet funny when he collected it it had some interior trim missing which hes still trying to get sorted now...

Forgot to say its nice in the white that would have been my choice although the metallic grey is very nice in the flesh.

Noticed you parked in the multi-storey car park? How do you find the manoeuvrability of the scout in tight spaces?

I have only driven it once to a multi story car park and I found that a bay between 2 cars would not be possible to get the kids out unless the cars parked far away from their boundaries...

In terms of driving it around the car park it felt easier than the Alfa Romeo Giulietta, although naturally i was being more careful (and it was a new multi story car park - Westfield)

I have a regular octavia 4x4, so should be the same as Scout (And the other Octavias).

I find it quite agile. Easy to get in and out of tight spaces. And the parking sensors and Reversing cam makes it even easier.
