drivers seat moves on its own while driving

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've encountered a strange problem with my skoda recently and that was the electronic drivers seat moves on its own every 5-10 minutes while driving and even when the vehicle is not running. I have tried using the memory buttons but no go the seat just wont stop doing what it wants to. I have recently changed the battery and don't know if that seems to cause this to happen or its something else. The seat moves on its own and drains the battery even without the key/ignition.

car make skoda laura L&K ( india) / Octavia mk2(uk)

Regards,

I'd be inspecting the wiring to the seat as my first port of call. Most modern cars seem to have some issues with airbag connections failing under seats. I see no reason why seat electrics should be immune to the same problem. Repeated movement of any wiring loom is bound to take its toll eventually I guess.

yes I think I am going to do just that , maybe there is a chip for it or something that doesn't work anymore.

have you tired disconnecting the memory buttons switch on the seat,

you should be able to push it up if you can get your fingers underneath the plastic trim on the side and then disconnecting the wiring it to see if that helps.

the memory buttons are not water proof so they can get damaged quite easily if they become wet

Had this issue the other day after I'd left the windows open 1 inch overnight... of course after a fine day it turned out to be the wettest night of the year and I woke up to find that some rain had got it on the seats and doors. The following day my driver's seat started playing silly buggers as I was driving down the road. Next day, flat battery. Followed wiilydog's advice and popped the seat memory switch out... sure enough, signs of green oxidisation on the circuit board. Obviously not something that's happened overnight, more the straw that broke the camel's back.

Battery recharged and 24hrs since the switch has been disconnected and thankfully the seat has stayed put. Electrical contact cleaner and a good clean-up will hopefully sort the seat memory switch... will post results later. Before I had disconnected the switch I tried resetting the memory buttons but was unable to. When pressing 1/2/3 only #2 worked.
