I had one break down on me last winter when it was -7 outside, nursed it to work called out asistance who eventually had to tow me to local dealer as it was running like Micheal Schumacher's Ferrari in final qualifying last night he he:P

I had my coil packs replaced under warranty from 'J' version to 'L' version, back in Feb 2006 on 27,000 miles.(albeit they hadn't failed)

First 'L' version failure on cylinder no. 1 on 18th Jan 2010 at 51,000 miles.

The new version I have now ends with a 'D'. Was told this is the latest version as of October 2009.

Hope this lasts!!!

£ 26.10 + vat at TPS.

For anyone who needs to know the symptoms, well it misfires on tickover and through the rev range. Firing on only 3 cylinders. The orange engine mangement light was flashing for a minute or two then remained on constant. Terrible smell of rotten eggs from exhaust.

Once replaced faulty item, the engine mangement stays on, storing the code in ECU.

Had a friend switch the light off with VAG COM for free and showing no more faults.
