Guys, whats the lastest Rev of Coilpack being sold ?

Someone on Vage.ie has lost one.

06B 905 115J replaced the faulty H version and has since been superceded by the L version. My H versions were replaced by the 06B 905 115L versions under warranty. I believe that MY 2004 onwards have a completely different part number coil pack but I don't know if that is backwardly compatible.

Thanks for the info, would the L rev be the correct number for the below from VAGE its for a Golf Mk IV GTi

"Not technical enough to know any of the above questions

code on coil that's gone is 06B 905 115G

and there's an I7 03/01 on it too, probably indicating date of manufacture...

I assume that it's drive by wire - it's an 01 G - early numbers though, and it's got all the extra's, so it may have been built in late 2000 "

Colin,

What version is yours ?

I have had a look at ETOS which shows 06B 905 115G, H and J as all having been deleted. That leaves 06B 905 115L as the latest version in that part number series.

Thats correct Denis.

And dealers have a bulletin that if any car comes in for a 40,000 miles service the coil packs should be changed for 'L' items if they are fitted with ealier versions.

Also regardless of age and service history all coil packs should be replaced with the latest version and Skoda pick up the tab.

I have just checked mine and they are "J" items, are these ok or should i be asking to have them changed to the "L" Version?

2 failures :thumbdwn:

Thanks for that Denis....need some proof for my 40k service.

Had one go in my old (02) RS, 3 weeks after I sold it to my best mate

Good to see this Poll is still alive and kicking (good from a data point of view, I sympathise with anyone who's had failures) :)

Are these pieces of junk fitted to the 2002 1.4 16 valve as well, because so far I have had to have the coil packs replaced on 1,3 and 4. Just waiting for no 2 to fail. Mind you at least they repace them free of charge. I had a Felicia for 6 years and it only broke done once. So far this year My car has been back to the garage 3 times for non-routine work.

No.
No.

Maybe not, but I have still had three of the things changed. I brought the car new in 2002 and it was delivered with a broken coil pack. Everything was fine until 21000 miles when 3 and 4 went. Then got it up to 29800 miles and no 1 went.

Maybe that's why they repair them for nothing. It's a shame because it's still a good car, especially for what I paid for it. It's just that everytime one of these things break I end up limping down to the garage in a car running like a tractor.

Some 850,000 VAG cars with the 1.8T, V5, V6 or W8 engine were fitted with coil pack Part No 06B 905 115H which proved prone to failure. In September 2003 SkodaAuto UK instructed dealers to replace coil packs 06B 905 115 with the index D, G or H - but not J version - with the L version 'in the event of complaints'. Additionally, dealers were recommended to check all vehicles in stock, and any customer vehicle in for routine maintenance or repair, and to similarly replace them.

Denis,

Do you have access to edit the title of this ? Might be worthwhile specifying which engine its for as the thread keeps popping up :) .

Just slightly off-topic, but how does one find out where the codes are on the coil packs (and for that matter where are they?) ?

btw...All mine are still intact. ... I've just brought it on myself now... :D

The number is etched on the top-side of the plastic, there was a picture around here somewhere.

Denis has some excellent pics here,

Including this one,

As far as I can remember you can just about make out the Rev No. without actually taken out the coil pack, just disconnect the cable going to it and its visable (I dunno if different Revs have the no's in different places though).

displayimage.php?imageid=51

"The problematic H version of the coil pack is on the left. This can be identified in situ if the top of the arrowed 'slot' is visible. The J and L versions do not have the 'slot' visible when fitted. The L version is the warranty replacement for the H version if fitted, regardless of whether the H has failed."
