DVLA Rage! Problems registering brand new car.

Featured Replies

So, I'm due to pick up my factory-fresh Octy today and my dealer has just phoned to say they are having trouble getting the DVLA to register them.

Also that there were problems with Yetis on Friday but these are now resolved.

Put it down to MY16 issues - possibly because the CO2/VED band has changed.

I phoned DVLA who were very helpful.

They had only a "partial record" against my reg. meaning it was bagsied by the dealer but had no car listed on it.

They were unable to look into if there were problems with the new models their "systems don't work like that".

They say applications are usually done by the next day. This worries me as I have made tricky arrangement to be able to get there today. Tomorrow and the rest of the week is crappy at work and I have people coming to view/buy my old car tonight!

Has anyone else had trouble registering MY16 vehicles?

I'm aware I could just be having "my expectations managed" (aka, fibbed to) to and the dealers screwed up the application, but I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Any thoughts?

Sorry to hear this.

Dealerships Day Job and the DVLA's,

so if any problems have the Dealeship Deliver the New Registered Car to you.

If not available they can deliver a Courtesy Car / Demonstrator until yours is ready.

Maybe even the Sales Managers Perk car that he / she drives.

If you doubt the Dealerships word or work,

Call Skoda UK Customer Services HQ and get a Customer Services Manager to call you back.

"Day Job"

Do you mean it takes a day, or should be simple and part of their day-job?

Thanks,

Jono

No i mean they do this for a living, 5-6 days a week at least 50 weeks a year, it is what their profession is.

If they are ****-ing up or covering up, they will be doing it to lots of people getting a new car registered.

Just see what they are saying now, and get them to assist you if Skoda CZ / Skoda UK and them are next to useless

at 'their day job'.

all the best with them,

Skoda 'Simply Clever', or just maybe 'Simple'.

PS.

If the DVLA make a muck up, always make a formal complaint, because the Management of this Agency

which is a Government Executive Agency get 'Performance Bonuses', so where their management fails

then 'Complaints', can cost the Chief Executive and the Deputy Cash Money,

that they understand, customers and the public's frustrations they do not.

My Car looks great... from my seat in a loaner...

Dealer hammering away at the DVLA websystem they use and it just doesn't recognise my vehicle :-(

Damn inconvenient but dealer behaving very well about it. They could have lied about delivery date until they knew it was all done, but instead doing everything they can to get the sale completed.

I have a Fabia loaner overnight and hope to pick up the Scout first thing in the morning.

Failing that, I'll have the salesman's car until it's sorted.

Very frustrating, but dealer genuinely being as helpful as I could expect.

Having the same problem over here! :-( Dealer has had my car since the beginning of last week. DVLA was supposed to have sorted last Wednesday, which got pushed to Friday, then today, now Wednesday this week! :-(

@Warkman has an also has an SE-L waiting for him, wonder if his dealer's had any luck getting his registered.

Jono is yours a Scout SE-L or is is there only one trim level for Scout? I wonder if the change from Elegance to SE-L is what's causing the problem as @Prykey's brother seemed to successfully take delivery of an MY16 VRS over the weekend.

Scouts have 2 variants, 150PS manual and 184PS DSG - no other variants.

I suspect the changes in VED are the issue, DVLA websites only list the old Band-E rather then new Band-D for the 184PS

In my case I don't think there's been a change in VED band just Elegance to SEL name change. Unless there has been a change in the emissions and VED band which hasn't been updated in the brochures yet. :-s

EDIT: SEL is now 150PS (slightly higher than the Elegance). That may be why :-s

How do you check with DVLA about what's going on? What no. To call on and what info will they need? Also how do you check what car models DVLA has? Is there a page to check VED for any make & model?

Yay!

Now registered!

Collection this evening.

Congratulations @Jono! Unfortunately my dealer still seems to be messing around with DVLA trying to get it registered!!

Did you need to provide the DVLA the VIN number before they could look you up? They couldn't find me/my new car by name and postcode but said they may be able to do more if they have a VIN

Not on their website, just Reg and manufacturer.

DVLA may need VIN on the dealers system though?

Our car is also now registered... FINALLY!!!

@Jono. Did you take advantage of Skoda's 5 day drive away insurance? Can dealer arrange on the spot?

How long after the car was registered do insurance companies get details of the new model and u managed to get a proper quote for the new MY car.

I considered the 5-day insurance, whilst still selling my old car, but old underwriters gave me 2 weeks free overlap.

My insurers did it based on the model, without needing it to appear on their reg number system.

Essentially, I have good insurers it seems. They are a broker that only deals with my profession, but underwritten by Zurich.
