Salesmen tactics

Featured Replies

Last week I bought a new(6 month old) car. I live in Edinburgh and we bought it from skoda in Liverpool. It was delivered to me by a family member who happened to be down in Manchester working when we decided to buy this particular car.

My dad had a look around before bringing it home but he isn't exactly eagle eyed.

By the time he's collected it the car was described to us as mint with not a mark on it. And we'd paid in full.

When we got the car home we noticed poorly touched up wing mirrors. Light scratches on the bonnet(difficult to photo so should polish out) and a chipped rear light cluster.

The salesman was great and said he'd spoken to his manager and they would get it sorted at a body shop that was convenient for us.

Today I've had an email saying that he would price up the parts and personally send me a cheque for the repairs.

Is he saying personally to try and get me to drop it? Making me think it's coming out of his pocket?

How should I proceed?

Does it really matter where the dosh comes from as long as the repairs are paid by the dealer or salesman.

This sounds like very good service to me - or am I missing something?

I'd be pleased with that response personally

I agree it sounds like a very good service and I am grateful. So grateful Infact that I would hate to think the salesman was out of pocket for relatively minor damage.

If it is the dealer paying I am more than happy to sit back and wait for he cheque. Sorry I wasn't clear In My point that I don't think the salesman should personally pay.

He'll post the cheque. That's what he's saying.

get them to pay direct to the repairers,i wouldnt pay for the repairs and wait to be reimbursed,

This is also the option I'd go for.  No point you paying out if the dealer can pay for the repairs direct.

I just read the "personally" as he's going to get it written and posted himself rather than assuming someone else will do it.

Yes, it would have been nice not to have this problem but it sounds like they are handling it very well.
