Dropping 6th gear in tiptronic.

Featured Replies

Hi guys.

Without any rhyme or reason, the 6th gear will disengage, disappear on the readout, and leave me coasting. This is not a regular occurrence and there is no standard of driving that will bring this about.

The dealer fixed on an error code, and changed the selector unit in the car. The fault appeared again as before.

A gearbox oil change and filter became due, so I had that done. (+£200.00)

The next move is the dealer telling me that a clutch pack was needed, this was a 99.99% promise from him of a cure.

So +£800.00 later and 25 miles away from the Garage, yes you guessed it! From 6th into neutral and coasting. Again no fix.

Now I am firmly believing that both fixes are not related to this problem!

Has anyone any clues as to this fault on any vehicle with a DSG box. I am fast running out of money. And more importantly, I am towing a caravan!!!

Cheers

I think the mechatronic unit problem.

And I would be REALLY p***ed off with the dealership for telling me that an £800+ job would sort it and it didn't.

That really is terrible service. What's the mileage? The dealer should've consulted SUK Technical on the issue and needs to give you a goodwill credit for the pointless clutch-pack. Name and shame them if they don't...
