Running 2 Subs Anyone??

Featured Replies

Guys,

Any of you running more than 1 sub currently??

I now have 2 x JL Audio 12W6 V1's to go in with enclosure. I will be running them via 2 amps, one for powering the subs (probably a Directed Audio Viper Series) and one (yet to be determined!) for running the components.

I also have a Phoenix Gold EQ 215 to balance it all out and a 1 Farad Power Cap so I don't suck the living daylights out of the battery and alternator.

Has anyone tried this yet and if so what has your experience been thus far??:)

Can't wait to get it all crammed in though!!!

As i have mentioned before on this forum i am runnig 2 900w sony 12" subs in an enclosure. both of them are running off the same 600w amp and it sounds sweet. i am concidering getting a power cap and a second amp for some components myself

Your cars gonna be bouncing down the road soon. What started out as a little project to slightly increase the bass line has taken hold of you and you can't stop yourself! :p

I run 2 x 1000watt Alpine TypeR's each is powered by a 600w v12. Pheonix Gold something or other powers some MB Quart components up front.

It's reasonably loud ;)

dont you mean very loud because mine is

I'm considering running 1 or 2 free air subs in the furby vRS at some point. Want the bass, but don't wanna lose too much boot space. My old 12" sub took up half the boot!

Thinking about 6x9's or 7x10's, with a 8" or 10" free air, or 2 free airs and upratung the standard rear speakers for better quality items. Not sure which way to go.

The 7x10's I currently run give a decent amount of bass, so may do that route with a 10" free air on the shelf. :D

The boot in the vRS isn't going to be any bigger than in the standard fabby though, is it?

One 500W sub gives enough head-ache inducing bass for me, cheers. :speaker:

And I deffo DO NOT want to lose any more boot space. There's not a lot more room around the front and side of my sub... I may consider 6 x 9's as there's free space on the amp for output.

The lack of boot space is why I'm considering free air subs. I know Kenwood do them in 8" or 10" and the bolt to the shelf and use the boot as the enclosure. 1 10" with a set of 7x10's I think would be the dogs wotsits in the Furby with a set of components in the front doors.

Jason - isn't the amp 2 channels? So the sub will be running bridged across these channels, so there will be none free on the amp? And even if there was, you'd need a left and a right channel on the amp for connecting to the 6x9s, so you'd be looking at another amp.

Which would be easy enough to install now you have the power to the boot... :D

If space is an issue, there are subs with fairly compact enclosures. Something like this would probably fit well, and at

Alternatively - for the fab - get shot of the boot carpet, and build a false floor that leaves space for the spare wheel (make a 'feature' of it) and then have some sort of 'cabinets' on the floor against the back of the seats... Probably no reason why you couldn't have shallow & wide enclosures for the speakers...

I quite fancy the Blaupunkt unit. That would mean that I could take the strain off the main speakers (which as everyone knows are more than capable of producing the treble!) without replacing head unit / speakers etc. Any comments on how easy it would be to fit to an Octy? I wonder whether it would fit under the front seat? (Will check tonight). Where could I take signal from?

It probably would fit under the Octy seat, though maybe not on the lowest height adjustment - worth checking though.

With regard to getting signal from the standard HU - have done some experimenting with using the "line out" on it to feed an amp, and the voltages produced on it were a little erratic to say the least. I might just have a bad example of the HU though.

If you look on the Skoda website under the Fabia accessories, there is a subwoofer advertised there which looks rather like the Blaupunkt one. It is advertised as only being compatible with the Skoda MS502 head unit, but it could be worth enquiring with your dealer...

Rob - if its any help, my multichanger sits under the passenger's seat just fine, regardless of how far forward or back it is (no height adjustment though) :D

Seem to recall trying to put an amp under the passenger seat and it moved with the seat...but it's a hazy memory... :D
