Did you watch Watchdog tonight by any chance?

They gave Autoglass a right ribbing. Your company?

I don't work there any more bud 2 years I've been independent. ..I served 15 years there and tbf what's gone wrong is the new computer system....there training is excellent but when you release the lads on there own they can't watch them all the time ...sad really as I had good times there

I was after a windscreen replacement a couple of weeks ago; Autoglass were my first call but I was told unless it was insurance work, they couldn't replace my screen.

I called National and they couldn't have been more helpful.

National

National arnt the best either tbh.....what they charge you and what car was it ? ...I'd always suggest using a independent over nationwide company's mate

MkI Fabia £135 Inc VAT.

I found the same with auto glass (wouldn't do a private job - insurance only) as well as a number of nationally recognised companies.

I basically had a crack in the windscreen repaired through insurance by auto glass (don't know why I didn't just pat the extra £50 excess for full replacement through insurance at the time!!) and now may be looking to part ex my car so was looking to see how much replacement was as the crack is going to have impact on the price obviously.

As I said I've tried 6 different companies. 2 said they won't do private work and the other 4 (including national) never called back with a price etc!

Don't know whether it's because I have auto lights/wiper function that it's more difficult to source who knows.

Can't find a local specialist/independent in South Wales so dealers are the only ones I can find that will actually do the job for £360 all in.

Is that a reasonable price?

Car is 2014 Peugeot 208 GTI (I used to have a mkII Fabia VRS and seat Ibiza and have stayed on forum as it is by far the friendliest and most informative around.

Hi....the dealer won't fit it themselves they will get someone external to come and fit it for them...if you was local to me I could fit this for 200 so there price is probably about right mate....just make sure you find out who fits the glass for them

what's gone wrong is the new computer system

Nothing to do with other windscreen companies/networks lowering AIVs to next-to-nothing prices, and flooding the market with snidey glass, then?

Nice article on a National Windscreen company ( not a company by that name , BTW), WHICH is used by 90% of the insurance industry to repair/replace windscreens. Jingle is "*** repair/**** REPLACE". Other suggested jingle is "*** disgust/*** disgrace". Source is Watchdog, with a lot of complaints on missed appointments /botched work /etc.

Botched work? You saw a Laguna with the trims missing? Owner had them in his hand? Seems to know how to take them off ok? Never saw a sat of trims come off a Laguna in my 14 years in this trade?. Volvo s40 with a "leaking" screen witch was later found to be sunroof! After two remove and refits. Quick Google would of saved customer service time and money?

Il be honest the motabilty customer.. Well there's no excuse was it 4 weeks? One wrong screen etc shocking service. I've been working down south helping out had to rebook a customer that had been waiting a month for a further 3 weeks as dispatch had got it wrong again!

The main problems Autoglass face internally is

Lack of a decent bonus system which is in turn making the jobs stack there's 45000 jobs now that are incomplete. Lads arnt doing the 9-10 jobs a day now. Lots of staff left with a new pay deal so they took on a lot of new starters they have been let loose to soon out of desperation. Dispatch centre are overworked they need more staff and less lads to look after. A few other things but these are the main points. Hope this puts a few bad thoughts to bed for many of you. Theres lots of tecs pulling there hair out including me also painted in a very poor light by watchdog.

Just look at auto windscreens face book or Twitter even worse. This is why Autoglass have a majority share of the work as the others are even worse. As others have stated if you need a cash job or want it doing asap contact an independent there's a lot of decent guys out there doing a Serling job like most they learnt there trade with Autoglass.

I just hope it will get better. As it can't get any worse for us staff!

Got it bang on there mate!

James- please don't shoot the messenger. i've only ever had dealings with them once .That was for a stone chip repair and I'd almost given up on them . This was before the re organisation. Appointment was between 1300 and 1700. After a few phone calls bloke turned up at a minute to .

On the other hand, I took our vans to RAC for a lot of years and never had any problems. But then ,like all parts of the service industry - you can do 10000 decent jobs, but get one wrong.................

I wasn't mate don't fret!. I don't "do" social media so can't vent on fb Twitter etc need to defend somewhere! :) RAC aw was a fine company back in the day I started there! Shouldn't of sold out to Norwich Union!.

I had AG do my glass this year.

No complaints decent bloke did a decent job but he didn't half curse the company and his managers.

Where is the best place to find an independent?

I need my Fabia screen doing after whacking it from the inside with the dash bar... so not an insurance job.

Where are you based ?

I would never have considered an independent glass repairer, I never even knew they existed!

  • 3 weeks later...

Where are you based ?

Sorry for the late response - Halifax/Bradford in West Yorkshire.

The crack is slowly getting worse (me playing with it yesterday didn't help... but it amused me in traffic :P).

No its cracked from the inside :P Some careless person hit it with the dash bar.

Is £155+VAT a good price for a MkII Octavia with auto wipe?
