MY16 Amundsen Nav (SD) issue

Featured Replies

Starting this thread to raise awareness of the issue with SatNav not working on early MY16 cars which have Amundsen MIB2.

The issue is that the Nav SD card being provided by the dealership doesn't seem to be accepted by the Infotainment system (will post a pic later).

Would be good to get people replying to this thread if they are also experiencing the same issue. Would also be good to know what their dealer is doing to rectify the situation and if a fix is found to provide details.

My dealer has booked some time with the master technician to take a look :-s

I think I'll be calling SUK about this and it might be good if others do the same so they realise there's a number of people with the issue and hurry up finding a fix.

I'm sure this has been thought of and discounted but has anyone tried the update link on the skoda web site? would that provide valid nav data?

At work now, will try when I get home.

How does the update process work, do you need to install a dedicated app on windows which you feed with a new image (downloaded from the website) and the windows app write the image to the SD card?

Yes im in same boat. Picked up car wednesday, no sat nav.

DEALER TOLD ME: they have sent wrong sd card. We have took old one out and have ordered you the new sd card, we will send it by post in a couple of days.

I do not know if this is fact or waffle, but i will not expect it for 2 weeks if i was told 2 days.

I can't help but wonder if the Nav data on the card is for Amundsen MIB1 instead of MIB2. Gotta give Domhnall's suggestion a go I think, can't hurt to look.

Go Here:- http://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/?appLanguage=en-US&appVIN=

Use windows and WinRAR to extract the ZIP file once downloaded (easiest option). There may not be any updates available for the MIB2 yet though, too new?

Don't you need an official Skoda card for this to work?

Out of curiosity, do maps really need a "special" Skoda provided SD card to be used. Can one just use a standard SD card and unzip the files from the update site into the standard card? I'm wondering if there's some hidden files/partition on the Skoda provided card that are needed to make it acceptable to the Nav unit.

The MIB 1 unit definitely needs to have the maps on the supplied Skoda SD Card.  Things may have changed for MIB 2 - but I somehow doubt it...

I think the key issue here is:

The issue is that the Nav SD card being provided by the dealership doesn't seem to be accepted by the Infotainment system (will post a pic later).

If the dealership is providing the SD Card, their stock is obviously for the old MIB I units and not the New Amundsden MIB II unit as fitted to model year 16 cars.

It would be good for all concerned if those with this problem get to the source. My logic would be that the SD card should be shipped with the car, not supplied from local dealer stock.

An update does indeed seem to be available...

Will have to give this a go in the evening. Hopeful its a case of just updating the card with the latest file.

Excited but won't be several hours till I can try this :-s

That's interesting - as it's a much larger file size than for the MIB 1 Amundsen maps.  Maybe that's what your dealership have supplied which is why it doesn't work?

If this is the case you'll have problems - as IIRC the MIB 1 SD Card is only 8GB - which means you won't fit a 13GB download on it...

This is a good point, hopefully the card that is supplied with the car is big enough to hold the larger MIB2 download, but as long as it's big enough, it should be fine. You DO have to use the card that comes with the car as the software is set up to recognize that card and only that card for Nav updates.  I hope the OP have a fast BB connection, that's a pretty big file!!

Picked up my new MY16 Vrs hatch yesterday. Dealer told me the wrong SD card had been sent and he would have a working replacement for me within 2 days. We'll see....

Seeme to be a few cases of SUK supplying the dealers the "old" spec card.  Given it sounds to be a significantly different unit (despite appearances/names being similar) it doesn't surprise me that the old card won't work.

Good old SUK...last to know what the factory is supplying again ;)

The dealers always had to order the SD card as a separate item for the old Amundsen - it's probably that they just didn't realise there was a different part number for the new stereo.

Lets face it, some of them won't have known there's a new stereo!

Just alerted my dealer to these problems, he'd not heard anything but he confirmed what people are saying on here, the cards don't come with the car but are ordered when the car arrives. He also said that the cards are 8Gb so the 13Gb update sounds like there may be a different card requirement. He's gone to do some digging.....

Don't hate me but mine is working.

MY16 VRS (build week 24) with Amunsden.

Might be the dealers will be stuck with the older SD cards so maybe they might consider selling them at a discount and we can then get our hands on a spare at a sensible price.

If you get a chance can you let the forum know what if anything there is by way of Model version data on the SD Card or the packaging that it came in please.

It came in the car itself so no packaging. I'm guessing a photo of the card wouldn't tell you much?

It should have a part number on it which tells you everything you need to know to order one :)

If you put it in your PC, what capacity card is it?

Spoke to a dealer today and this came up in the conversation. According to him, and he seemed pretty knowledgeable, Skoda UK were caught with their pants down with this one. The supplied cards probably have a number ending in 5e,if so this is the old MIB1 card.

Your dealer needs to order the Yeti card, not the current one but the one that's just been superceded or something? They had the same problem, Skoda UK tech couldn't help so they worked it out themselves.

Hope this helps someone, it's just what I've been told so no idea how accurate it is.
