Hi, followed this thread, and updated the Skoda SD card via the update portal and VIN number to the June 2015 version having saved the original map data.  So far so good.  The sat nav booted up and appeared to work fine but then I noticed that there were no road names or road numbers on the screen.  Going back to the saved data resulted in the road names/numbers appearing again but obviously on an old map.  Anyone know what's happening?  I gather there are two Amundsen versions, how do I find out what I have got (its a mid 2014 Octavia)?  The new map data I downloaded has a filename of P51_N60S3MIBS2_EU_NT_Q3.

Are you using a Mac?  If so, the OS (in its infinite wisdom) likes to leave unasked for files all over the SD Card which seem to confuse the nav system.  See this thread for something similar:

The answer is to either use a Windows machine to update, or to use a free Mac utility such as this to clean the card.

If you're not using a Mac then sorry - no idea!

Yes, I'm using a MAC!  Did the update again and this time cleaned the updated SD card with CleanUp smb mess as per the thread reference and it just worked first time.  Can't thank you enough for the quick and helpful reply.  Taaaaaa.

I think an Amundsen owner with a Mac needs to get this put as a sticky - it is ridiculous the number of times the same question gets asked.

I'm having no luck with trying to update my Amundsen (Octavia 3 March 15) to the ECE 2016 update.

I use a mac and from reading the above this might complicate matters!

I've downloaded the file from the  update portal (http://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/en-GB/Updates/TMBKC7NE4F0166625)

Wiped the Skoda SD card and reformatted as FAT32

Transferred the downloaded folder (P54_N60S3MIBS2_EU_NT_Q1) onto the SD card

Cleaned the updated card with CleanUp smb as mentioned above

But still getting the error message on the Amundsen "Please insert a data medium with valid navigation data"

Aaghhhh!

Aaghhhh!

That folder name is incorrect - looks like the compressed file name? Obvious question - did you unzip the downloaded file?

Edited by Minimoke

That's the name of the downloaded folder containing all the various files. My understanding is that Mac OSX unzips automatically on download

I aggree it looks like the data has not been unziped on the earlier cards you have two folders and a file after you have unziped it.

John

Here's the file structure that shows on my mac

Folder: P54_N60S3MIBS2_EU_NT_Q1   <      DBinfo.txt
<      Folder: markets      <   Folder: eu     < Folder: map        <    Folder:  MapRegions         (this contains all the .psf files)
                                                                                                                       <Folder:  ode          <   Folder:   styles

Can you post a screenshot in an explorer (finder?) view of the contents of the SD card?

If that is your SD card the problem is that you shouldn't have that top level folder there.

dbinfo.txt should be in the root of the SD card. It is the contents of the P54_xxxx folder that should be on the SD card, not that folder itself

Thanks andyvee. Amundsen seems to be reading the sd card again.

Why is this such a difficult process? I got very little assistance or advice from 2 Skoda dealers today. The attitude seemed to be that it was nothing to do with them.
