MY16 Amundsen Nav (SD) issue

Featured Replies

Spoke to a dealer today and this came up in the conversation. According to him, and he seemed pretty knowledgeable, Skoda UK were caught with their pants down with this one. The supplied cards probably have a number ending in 5e,if so this is the old MIB1 card.

Your dealer needs to order the Yeti card, not the current one but the one that's just been superceded or something? They had the same problem, Skoda UK tech couldn't help so they worked it out themselves.

Hope this helps someone, it's just what I've been told so no idea how accurate it is.

  • Just checked with my dealer, I pick the car up on Monday at 11am, they have had a play with the Nav and my SD card works correctly

  • Don't hate me but mine is working. MY16 VRS (build week 24) with Amunsden.

It came in the car itself so no packaging. I'm guessing a photo of the card wouldn't tell you much?

A photo of the card may well help as I believe the part number is on the sticker.

Please post a photo.

Hopefully this will be useful to anyone else with a MY16 whose Amundsen is not working

So it looks like both of you now need to download the update as Week 45 2014 and Week 22 2015 are both out of date now.

Reasonably quick resolution!

@andyvee What is it that indicates to you that there's something newer than W22 mapping data available?

The latest maps were released towards the end of May, approx Wk 21 on the update portal. You may be right, and the week 22 SD card is the latest. Your picture is of a Wk45 2014 though, which is most definitely out of date.

Does it show as ECE2015/2016 in the version info?

I think mine needs an update. Do I unpack the zip onto the official Skoda SD or onto another SD? Also where should the station logo file be placed?

Looks like your maps are 2014 so there are definitely updates available seems strange that they didn't give you the same 2015 maps they gave my brother?

Are the ones your brother has ECE2015 or ECE2015/2016?

For MIB1 units it had to be the official card. Who knows for MIB2 though, you will be the first to try.

My tip, take a full copy of your existing card. Format it then extract the zip file to it. Use a PC and not a Mac, unless you are comfortable cleaning all of the spurious crap a Mac will put on the SD card, which will cause problems.

But what is the map version as shown on the Sat Nav under Software Version Info - if it is ECE2015/2016 then they are the latest, the same as the ones on the download portal. If not, then newer maps are available.

Sorry, no idea I probably won't see him for a week now.

Now updated to the latest maps... 13GB download then transfer to the SD card, boy was that a long and tedious process, partly because it failed the first time around!! And that's with a reasonably fast 2.2MByte/sec download speed (Skoda servers are fast/high bandwidth)

Is this an easy thing to do i.e, does the site provide detailed instructions and is this the site that you got the download from http://updateportal....e=en-US&appVIN= ?

Very easy but data transfer time from internet to PC and then PC to slow Skoda SD card is time consuming and tedious. Of course you could just leave the PC running while it does each transfer and get with something else, but power profile on my PC shut it down part way through :-S

Cheers, I'll mention it to my brother, so you need to use the SD Card that came with the car (eventually ;-)) to download the updates to then.

You do, but get him to check the version first - if it is ECE2015/2016 then no need to update as they are the ones available to download. It could be that the Wk22 2015 card is these maps.

Picked up my new car on Friday and had the same problem sat nav not working, dealer said I needed a new SD card, said he had ordered one and it would come over night ready for Saturday. Went in on Saturday new SD card waiting, plugged it in and now works as advertised.

For older MIB1 units does that mean support will now be dropped or will two different updates appear?

Also, why is the file size so much bigger, are there extra functions /options?

They cant drop the support. Lots of new cars with mib1. It will probably just be different downloads based on vin-number.

I would imagine the bigger size could be partly down the higher quality assets to make use of the higher resolution screen.

Good news is that he can log into the site and he will look at what version he has the next time he goes out in his car, so thank you andyvee and RB79.

Sorry to highjack this thread slightly, does anyone know the process for updating my Amundsen+ that's fitted to my MY14 Fabia Monte Carlo Tech as they only have 1 SD Card Slot and there was not a System SD Card as part of the handover from new, Also it cannot be from the "Update Portal" http://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/en-gb as that doesn't recognise my VIN Number!

Any thoughts would be most welcome as I'd really like to update my maps and firmware.
