Fabia Mk1 vRS oil cooler kits - COMPLETED AND CLOSED

You'll probably do a better job than the garages would mate. It's your car so if you take your time you can get a much neater installation.

As I said via PM... get the cooler itself mounted first. Then route the pipes. Fit the thermostatic plate last. then at least you can stop mid-way if you run out of time.

Brackets are supplied, but they're strips of metal, so they need cutting the shaping to what you need individually.

Don't think anyone has fitted yet! Maybe Steve has...

Cheers Alex, shame I didn't see this GB earlier as I would of had one. How easy are they to install (if you know)

Pretty easy mate. Hardest thing is mounting the cooler itself. Other than that it's just taking the standard oil cooler apart and fitting in the thermostatic plate.

Keep an eye on my project thread. I'll be fitting the thermostatic plate tomorrow or the day after.

Cheers Alex. I see the plate fits under the oil filter housing but I'm unsure how that comes apart. I'll probably try and mount it where the smic would go.

I'll be watching your thread even more closely now lol :)

There's a big bolt at the bottom of the housing. You'll need to get at it from under the car. Don't be underneath it though, as you'll get covered in oil!!

Then the standard cooler comes away and you put the thermostatic plate at the top with the adaptor. Then the standard cooler goes on after that and bolts up as normal. Easy really!

Ok guys... bad news!

I've come to fit my thermostatic plate this evening, and it turns out that the inbuilt rubber seal on the plate is on the incorrect side.

Can I ask you all to post up a picture of your thermostatic plates so that I can see if they're the correct way or not.

I'm going to fire Darkside an email in a minute about it. I need it sorting asap!

Oh dear :o

Tell me about it! I'm against the clock to get my car back together by the end of this week as it is!!

Can an oem seal not be used?

  • Author

Unfortunately not, as it has nothing to slot into. So will be squeezed out. I tried believe me!!

I'm not paying nearly £200 to have to bodge a kit ha ha!

Looking on various mocal sites I think it's the centre adapter that is wrong,as all the sandwich plates are the same.

Tense / nervous waiting for the response back from Darkside following alex's email.

Racing against the clock.

Sorry for the delays guys - busy day working on the car.

Guy from Darkside got back to me and said that they'll 'sort it'. It turns out that the problem with the kit is the adaptor bolt. It's meant to have a thinner walled hex on the bolt so that the thermostatic plate can be mounted either way.

So they'll be posting out the correct item. I've asked them to do so to everyone individually so that I don't have to re-post them out. I'm just about to email them with the list of addresses as per the ones that people gave me to post the kit out to.

Guy from Darkside asked if people can stick their original one in an envelope and send it back to them. So just dropping it in the mail with a stamp should be sufficient.

Hopefully it will fit through the 'large' letter slot in the post office then!!!!not a sniff a normal stamp will cover it!!! :D

If not it will be classed as a parcel.

Thats a good fix .

Alex your the man.

I'm not paying to send it as a parcel. Simple as!

Will cost £2.80 to post back if Royal Mail don't take it as a large letter which is about £1.40 or something, so still not the end of the world.

Darkside have emailed me all the tracking info for the new parts that have now been posted.

They have sent me another email insisting that the originals are sent back asap. I'll leave this up to everyone individually, as it's out of my hands now.

The address from their signature I presume to post to is as follows...

Unit 1 Carbon Court,

Springvale Road,

Barnsley,

South Yorkshire,

S72 7FF.
