This thread is forcing me to look at MX5s. Found a nice low mileage S-VT a few miles away....

  • A Felicia actually

I wasn't aware that Skoda even made a convertible Octavia.

I think some of it could be novelty

Maybe always wanted a drop top,put the hood down first chance they got then got paranoid?

Being looked/laughed at?

Nice photoshopping.

Ooh. someone put a lid on it.

Skoda were trialling open top cars,

they even found with the Fabia Convertible that even when left all year with the roof down the carpets stayed dryer than the hatchbacks.

Yep, if I had a cabrio, the roof would be down all the time.

It's a strange situation with Cabrios in this country, I don't understand the owners of them either.    The only reason I can think off is. it's too hot sometimes when you're stuck in traffic, wouldn't want to get sunburnt would we?

Its always the other way i see it.

Anytime of the year that theres a hint of sun, even in the midst of winter i see them driving with the hood down with a wooly hat and scarf on. I've even seen them with the hood down with no sun in winter

Look like absolute idiots..... I just laugh

I drive everywhere with the sunroof open on the optima and roof down on the copen unless it's absolutely hammering it down!

Yes, that's true as well.

When I borrowed a mate's MX5 for a long term stint (mongrel repairs....) I made any excuse to put the hood down.  I borrowed it over a winter sadly, but still drove it when minus 5 outside, hat on, heaters on.  Lovely! :D

^^^^ I had one with aircon, stick that on in summer, hood down nice and cool B) just need something on the bonce to protect you.

In winter the heater is like a furnace, again hood down nothing better.

Seems to be one or the other, either roof down at the slightest bit of dry weather OR up in 35 degree heat. I took my brothers mrs car out the other day, 207 cab, had to put the roof down or my head was hitting it :D

I've been out this Saturday in my Skoda with the aircon on, & later in the day with in the EOS with the whole roof tucked away in the boot.

It's outside now with the roof up, 'cos I've only got a 1-car garage & the Skoda has been put back to bed for the next week or so......

As for winter driving, SWMBO & I made a trip into London to peek at the pretty Xmas lights in her old EOS, & that was done with the roof tucked away,

heather on + suitable clothing !

From our experience, fast driving, (100 mph+ in Germany)  is better with the roof up, quieter &  with better economy, but the car does have a very large sun-roof, so it's still light inside.

DC

I drove a white golf gt convertible around singapore 2 years ago with hood down listening to spice girls full blast

Felt super camp :)

As a convertible owner, any opportunity at all, I lower the roof

...I bought the car, just for this....if you haven't tried it, do so

It's addictive!!

Yes, I am too, gobsmacked at the amount of convertibles without the roof down in favourable weather

I can only assume, that because the majority are women, they don't know how to do it...lol

(Based on my wife's car roof raising and lowering skills)

^^^^ No, it's something to do with the hair do.

SWMBO had one once and hankers after another.

She had the roof down all the time, even in winter. Roof down heaters on.

If it rains you just drive a bit faster and try not to stop.

I also saw quite a few expensive drop tops with the roofs up despite the sun being up. Does seem somewhat stupid.

Dont worry, we laugh back at you too

(Both myself and SWMBO own cheapo convertibles alongside our skodas)

We would love a convertible.

Would have the roof down at every opportunity!

We have our hearts set on an E250 CDI Blue efficiency with the 7 speed auto box. Better get saving those pennies!

I've been having very naughty thoughts of buying an Audi S4 convertible for days like these, will probably never happen though but one can dream!

I once saw an old work colleague of mine do just this on a cold December morning in his Lotus Elan (90's one), top down with woolly hat on. Once we got to work I asked him why, and apparently with the roof up he had 'space' issues (he was a sizeable chap)!

I ran my mx5 hood down as often as I could. The exception was on motorways. Too noisy and risky for a stone or other debris impact.

In the rain, yep, just keep above 40 :) In the cold, yep, -10ish best morning, big down jacket on at 5am :) Why not, one live go for it.

If I was popping to shops or whatever, sometimes I'd just leave it closed for lack of hassle at either end. Read that as I'd forget to lock glovebox...
