I have a 57 plate Octavia 2.0l tdi with 135k.  Have only had it a few months and have just had cambelt, water pump and fan belt changed.  Also new sump because was told it was leaking oil.

 

However, when I accelerate up a hill I lose power and it goes into limp mode.  Two different garages have told me they think it needs a new turbo unit, which would cost me about £1000 at a non-franchise garage.  This is a lot of money for me, especially after having the cambelt etc done. 

 

Does anyone have any other ideas about this problem, or know of a turbo specialist who could do it cheaper?

 

 

I forgot to mention that when my Octavia goes into limp mode I pull over and switch off the ignition and turn it back on after a few seconds and it apparently resets itself.

You can probably sort it for less than £5 by cleaning the turbo.

 

The variable veins get covered in carbon build up from the exhaust, and eventually get stuck. The car goes into limp mode to protect itself.
