Tyres, yes yes, boring thread alert.

Featured Replies

Right, the CB's rear tyre is at the end of its life (for me anyway :D My brother would get another 1k out of it no doubt). I have no clue what tyre to get, I do a mix of riding, commutes, bit of quick stuff in the weekends and a few long touring trips.

Any pointers? My mate reckoned a dual compound tyre would be best, harder in the middle, softer edges to stop it squaring off quickly.....

Michelin pilot road 4's for me.

Long lasting, never had any issues and grip really well in the wet too.

Ive got bridgestone bt021's on atm (long story) and ill never have them again tbh. Theyre alright but nothin special.

I put Michelin pilot road 4's on my previous bike and you could certainly notice the difference compared to the oem fit Bridgestones. They will be going on my new gixxer as soon as I've got through the oem Bridgestones. Feels like groundhog day :-)

Pilot road 3 or the new 4 are epic in the wet. Pretty good in the dry for most riders. They don't square off too badly.

You'll be staggered at the levels of grip in greasy and wet conditions.

I've just fitted a set of pirelli angel gt to the k1300s this morning. Can't wait to try them tomorrow to compare to the road 4.

I ride every day to work all year round so looking forward to getting some mileage on them.

I took them for granted until i fitted these bridgestone bt021's (it came with them but needed a rear shortly after buying the bike, and i was still abit skint from buying the bike so put the same on to match the front).

These bridgestones have spun up quite a few times in the wet. Not bad in the dry but spun up on a light throttle in 30mph limits and steady overtakes in the wet. Probably about half throttle and it still spun.

Never know where you stand with em. Michelins were mevrt likd that

Yup couldn't agree more. My previous bike came with Dunlop road smart tyres as standard - I had no confidence in the wet never mind grease.

When I fitted the pilot road 3's I found I could wheelie the bike in the wet and they still wouldn't let go. Amazing.

Well, I went to the garage, after the washing machine dying and mullering my motorbike fund I was left poor. Got there and was left with a couple of choices that were mainly sports tyres and ones I'd not heard of or heard mixed reviews of. Then my brother takes me to a little selection on the end with no labels on. Had a quick look and said I didnt want to put a used tyre on, then he pulled out a Pilot Road 3 that was freshy, looks like it's done minimal miles. Asked his mate there, he said it come off a sports bike a bloke had just bought but he wanted something more sport based so swapped it out.

I was left with the choice of leaving it until next month when my bike fund is refreshed, buy the Conti sport tyre or take a punt on this essentially 'part worn' tyre. After much inspecting and a quick ring to my mate I went for it. Seems ok, took it easy on the way home, I'm not sure how mental I am to try it tbh but it's done now. I'll be going very steady on it no doubts, see how it goes.

Sounds like a sensible choice to me - you won't be disappointed with the pilot road 3 that's for sure .

I need a new rear tyre on my Vespa too. It passed the MOT, but I was strongly advised to change it *right now*.

It's a pain to do though, as you need to remove the exhaust and mounting plate to get at the wheel :(

Sounds like a proper Sunday afternoon job after the F1 ?!!

Well first ride out on the pirellis went well this morning. Mega grip from the off, very responsive and far more neutral and quicker turn in than the metzelers.

Considering they were brand new very pleased with the choice. Just need some rain to see how they fair now.

I figured I can try it, if it's as good as it's reputations says then I'll get a new pair of 4's when this ones gone.

Youll probably be waiting longer than you think for this one to wear down...

Oh god. Not metzelers.

I had to get rid of a perfectly good set as it felt like it was going to wipe out from underneath me on every corner... And thats in the dry...

If it's got anything on by the end of summer then I'll get the new ones over winter anyway, I only paid £25 for it so not too fussed how long it lasts. :D

Yeah aha. Or when the front goes.. Then have a whole new fresh set (:

Couldn't agree more - shocking. With the power and weight of the bike they were lethal in the wet.

How they fit these things is beyond me.

What bike is it you had them fitted to mate?

Had Pilot Road 2s in the past and loved them. They coped well with a couple of track days, unless you're in the fast group, only time they started moving around was in 35°+ heat travelling at a rather rapid pace in South of France.

Not had chance to try the 4s but can only imagine they are even better.

I also liked some Avon VPs I had a few years back.

Bmw k1300s. Heavy weight with a fair bit of grunt.

Uh yeah. I bet that was horrible. Lovely bike though.

I only had an sv650s at the time, so only 70bhp and they were still all over the place

Cheers dude, love the bike. perfect for daily commutes.

With a bike that handles as well as an sv I bet it felt dreadful ?!!!

Yeah. Bloody quick too i bet haha.

Tbf the biggest let down on the SV was the suspension haha.

Still waiting for the bridgestones to wear out on the VFR so i can get some PR4's on haha.

The engine is a peach, grunt everywhere. Bit like the wife and a bar of chocolate lol

You surprise me, thought it was supposed to be a lightweight good handling bike as standard ?

I so nearly went for the pr4. Awesome tyre.

Dunlop Road Smart 2 or 3 (personally think the 2 is just as good as the 3)

Michelin pilot road 3 or 4 (again two great tyres)

i would stay away from Battlax they always ware uneven on the front and never felt very confidence inspiring.

If you like to go that bit quicker get some ex track tyres Metlzeler ReceTecs £20 part worn (Basically done a warmup lap)
