Mansell and Walker return to the BBC

Featured Replies

Murray Walker has signed up to become the voice of the Grand Prix Master series on BBC.

Grand Prix Masters will see star names from F1's recent history such as , Nigel Mansell, Emerson Fittipaldi and Alan Jones competing against each other in identiacal single seater cars as in A1 GP.

The cars are built by Silverstone based Delta Motorsports and are built on a 1998 Reynard chassis, powered by a 3.5-litre V8 Nicholson McLaren Cosworth engine producing 600bhp. The cars have no traction control or power steering but do have paddle shift gears and Avon will supply the control tyres.

Men and Motors will show qualifying and the race live, whilst the BBC is planning one-hour delayed coverage. Damon Hill has been approached about joining Walker in the commentary box.

When asked asked how his fitness was, Nigel Mansell replied: "Non-existant at the moment, I've had my health bar Twix". When Walker was asked about Mansell's fitness, he said: "...I expect he's in the gym 18 hours a day..."

Grand Prix Masters kicks off at Kyalami in South Africa on November 12-13.

Sounds very interesting, especially with M&M being on Freeview.

Will be good to hear Murray again, just hope that Mansells drol moaning is kept off the air! :D

Roll on the "Murray-isms"

Wonder if Hill was offered a drive as opposed to just commentating on it?

Neither attract me. Mansell did nothing to save Lotus when it was on the way out, even though Colin Chapman gave him his chance.

As for M Walker, I was glad to see him go. His constant action blindness and screeching voice drove me barmy.

Perhaps their pension finds are low.

Yea I heard that on the TV the other day, it should be good. Hopefully the boys won't be too afraid to overtake, give them a couple of shots of NOS :D .

Cool!

Back to the 80s!

Can't wait - for all the knocking that Mansell got - his driving style made for good viewing - I'll never forget his 360 degree spin on the kerb at 180mph in Italy - claimed he was in control LMAO for weeks after that but fair play he Senna, Piquet and Prost made F1 interesting - something thats been somewhat lacking for years.

Wonder if Hill was offered a drive as opposed to just commentating on it?

They said they thought about inviting people like Damon Hill, Jean Alesi, Jonny Herbert, Even Hakkinnen etc, but thought it wouldn't be fair. After all, the youngest in there is like 45, I think one of them (Alan Jones?) is over 60.

I love the idea of men with real character, or should that read- men who are real characters? Racing wheel to wheel. I used to love watching Mansell and his heroic style. I read a quote once that said,

I watched the qualifying yesterday and they were sliding all over the show - bloody fantastic.

Alan Jones isn't racing as he has dodgy neck.

Watched the race today and it was great - they were all on the same lap right at the end of the race, there was even regular overtaking!
