Best place to get a new / replacement turbo & how much to pay? I need one ASAP

Featured Replies

So, xman has been very helpful and is suggesting the GT 17/52 which he has in stock for £475 delivered. Does anyone know if I would need anything else in order for the local garage to fit this such as gaskets etc and what is the VNT?

Edit: Would the VNT need adjusting on any new / remanufactured turbo?

My Hybrid Pd150 turbo from Turbo Dynamics actuator adjustment was bang on, no adjustment needed.

It's one of them things, I can guarantee people will reuse all the gaskets etc so it becomes a personal choice. You could need....

- exhaust manifold gasket

- exhaust downpipe gasket

- EGR valve gasket

- oil feed pipe copper washer

- oil return gasket

- new bolts

Things you will need is a slightly bigger turbo intake pipe, about £10 or so from Ebay. Just checked my notes from the last gt17/52 I fitted and have this.

"Tip to turbo - 63mm - 55mm

Turbo intake pipe is 62.5

Turbo is 55.0"

So you would need something like this...

63mm > 55mm

It's best to check VNT adjustment anyway to be sure, might be fine, might be out.

The garage will need to clock the turbo housing as well, I had to on my GT17/52. In fact I've got plenty on my project thread about fitting it.

A quick update on this. Firstly, a massive thank you to xman who has been extremely helpful in my quest to find a new turbo. Also, thank you to everyone who has contributed to this post as all the comments & advice are appreciated.

The only reason that I didn't go with him & I told xman this yesterday is that my local garage have been able to source a Borgwarner (I think that's how you spell it) turbo with a 2 year parts & labour warranty for not much more than xman's product.

As it's peace of mind that I'm after this is the primary reason that I opted to go down this route.

I stopped in to the garage on my way home this evening & they showed me my old turbo. I've never seen so much play in a turbine & it looks like I had a lucky escape that there wasn't more damage.

Should get the car back tomorrow.

That's strange mate because only garrett or KKK make them - well originals.

Borg warner are good turbos.

Well I didn't know that! Thanks.
