Spaceback wind deflectors, sill trims, boot lip trim

Featured Replies

I've finally deployed all my stick on bits for the car.

First, the Heko wind deflectors:

Boot lip protector:

Passat-style chrome strip at base of boot hatch:

Door sill trims (rears are OK, but really not happy with the fit of the front ones. Will likely dump them and buy the genuine ones):

Also fitted new number plates (stuck on rather than screwed on - not a fan of screwing on plates) as I no longer wanted to be a rolling advert for an appallingly bad ex-Skoda dealer. See boot pic for example.

Thanks

Chris

Everything looks great and I'm sure they are practical.

Out of curiosity, in the UK do you have the choice to put any plate you like? Because here in Greece licence plates are metal, stamped with the coat of arms, and it is illegal to replace them with unofficial ones. The dealer perforates them and screws the placte to the car. In any case it would be impossible to stick them on, because of their weight. :(

We have some flexibility over the plate type. You can buy plates from most car accessory stores and online traders (and fit them yourself) - the government department that oversees cars in the UK (the DVLA) does not sell plates.

There is a regulation size and font your plates must comply with (mine do), and the plates must have certain manufacturer markings in order to be compliant (so the plates can be traced to the company that made them). Rear plate must be made using the right type of reflective yellow material. Most plates in the UK are plastic nowadays, like the ones I fitted. You don't have to have the EU flag and country code on the plates (you can have no flag and country code at all or your choice of England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland flag/code as appropriate), but if you do have the EU flag and GB country code, it means you don't need any other country of origin stickers on the car if you then drive abroad.

There are some road-legal metal pressed plates that you can buy and use in the UK, but you have to be careful as many metal pressed plates are not made to the right spec to meet UK rules.

Oh, BTW - sill plates removed this morning. Of anyone wants them, you can have them for the cost of postage.

I've got genuine plastic ones coming from Superskoda - along with my chrome front grill kit :)

Oh well... Smarter, cheaper, easier for you then...

I'll just add that if you have an accident here and your plate is damaged, you must pay EUR30 (if it's your first time) or EUR60 (after the first time) to issue new plates, front and rear, with a new reg number. Waste of time, money, paperwork, as well as quick exhaustion of numbers.

Anyway, sorry for hijacking your thread. I hope the original sills fit better. If they do, I will also consider buying them; I always hated that body-painted part of a car!

No problem. Here the registration number on the plate doesn't change. The car is issued with a plate number at first registration, and keeps that number for the life of the car regardless of whether you renew the physical plates on it.

As for the sill trims - we already have the genuine plastic ones on the Fabia II Combi, and they fit perfectly (and look good). I'm hoping the Rapid ones will be equally well made.

Superskoda have shipped, so hoping I'll be able to fit them by the weekend.

My sill plates were difficult to fit on the front too.

They were very long and the sill curves markedly at each end, making it to secure them in a perfect position.

However £41 v's the factory £157 means I've kept them on.

Looking forward to seeing the chrome bits fitted. I was waiting for another 20% off weekend but it doesn't look like it's coming any time soon so I may have to order the kit along with some other bits and pieces

Here's an example of how different a UK number plate can be and still be legal

£157 - ouch. Bought the genuine plastic Skoda ones (which would have been the ones fitted on the line if specced) for €29.99 yesterday, which is less than the crappy metal ones cost.

You really need the chrome finishing strip along the bottom of that boot lid - it would look so good on that colour car. They do my one (see earlier in the thread) for the normal Rapid too.

Superskoda order arrived this morning.

Genuine sill trims are a definite improvement over the aftermarket ones - they even have the slight upward curves at the ends to fit the contours of the doors properly.

The chrome grill inserts are going to be fun to fit - that's going to need a good few hours to prep and fit all of the pieces (and no instructions provided).

  • 3 weeks later...

Have you been able to fit the chrome grill pieces yet?

I'll likely be placing an order shortly and these are on my list along with the chrome that runs along the bottom bumper grill but I'd still like to see them on before deciding

Not had a chance to fit them yet alas. Been super busy the last few weeks with the office move and having the living room decorated, so all the bits I bought from SuperSkoda have been sitting in their box waiting to go on.

I'm at Waxstock this weekend, but hopefully next weekend will stay free and I can have a session cleaning the Fabia and the Spaceback, and fit all the bits (have a boot lip protector for the Fabia to go on, along with the grill and sill trims for the Spaceback)

I will say the grill parts are really well made and fit well when offered up - really accurate sized strips, so would recommend making the purchase.

Sounds good - they're going to be closed for the next week so I'll place the order at the beginning of August.

I'm not sure about the chrome tailgate trim, it looks really good on the blue one on the website but I like the way the back end looks as it is so I'll decide nearer the time

Hi Delbert,

Chrome strip would be lost on white and too busy with boot lip protection fitted IMO

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I don't have the boot lip protector, I use a cheap throw I bought from Primark or somewhere like that to cover the bumper whenever I load anything in.

I wasn't keen on the sill protectors before but I really like them on the white so They may be added to the list.

It's your eyes, looks straight to me!

Now the front one on the other hand

Done during a very cold winters evening and it was as quick as I could get it on as I had the V5 with the new registration waiting for me when I got in from work. It's actually only about 12mm off centre but looks 10 times worse

I like the smaller plate size. Didn't realise that was legal. Very nice...

As long as the font, font size and spacing is correct, you are allowed to chop off the excess blank plate either side of the reg.
