Jenson Button - F1 Diplomat

Featured Replies

Jenson Button has once again shown his maturity.

When questioned about the lack of female drivers in F1 he came to the following conclusions.

"A girl with big boobs would never be comfortable in the car and the machanics wouldn't concentrate."

"... and one week of the month you wouldn't want to be on the circuit with them, would you?"

To put this into context in was a tongue in cheek remark in an interview for FHM.

Personally I think Button should keep his mouth shut and concentrate on driving.

He had a "big mouth" the season when BAR came second in the manufacturers, wanted out of BAR was made to stay, then wanted out of a Williams contract. The guy is going to end up a "nearly man" and no team will want him as he keeps on breaking contracts.

The lads got a point though...... :sofahide:

Agreed, but it's hardly the type of thing he should be coming out with especially in his position.

still funny - no matter how "politically incorrect" it is..

feck political correctness.. nanny state gone mad.

I gotta admit it made me chuckle.

He's got a point...imagine what effect the vanity mirror would have on the cars drag coefficient.. :sofahide:

But isn't that what the CDG is supposed to do?

re: Button's comments..

regardless of whether tongue in cheek or not.....out of order as Andy says.

big city bosses who earn more than Button are taken to task for their chauvinist attitudes when they harass/dismiss otherwise perfectly qualified staff who happen to be female.....

why should an F1 driver be treated any different, as his attitudes could be barring very talented female drivers from even considering it.......there used to be some good female rally drivers knocking about, and I reckon some women i know could be be as devastingly handy about a track as Shuey in the wet.

Get rid of Max Moseley while we're at it and give bernie full control again.......

I'm thinking Burt Reynolds,Cannonball Run and those girls that unzipped their tops every time they got done for speeding

In a Countach IIRC.

Wasn't one of the ladies Farrah Fawcett and didn't she confess to Dom De Luise in part of the film that she is partial to going commando ? ...or has my recollection of the film become a hazy mix of fantasy and reality?

:)

EDIT: Just checked. it was her...not sure about the commando bit though

If Girls were good race drivers than surely there would be more in the sport?????

Wasn't a female driver given a test in a minardi recently, just before the team was sold to Red Bull?

Isn't part of the problem that women can't drive as well as men?

No offence...

That'll be Katherine Legge.

Flawed logic. There are fewer in racing simply because the attitude to them in the sport is reflected in some of these posts i am afraid. Bit better in the US hence there are a few more - one is doing very well at the moment (forget her name). She is British but the only way she could break into motorsport (as a driver rather than as an ornament) was to go to the US.

Think about that for a minute and think about the future of any sport or business in this day and age that appears to discourage 50% of the population from participating. Nothing to do with being PC or not (whatever that means) - it just doesn't make sense.

There is a very good sporting and business case (and that is what F1 is primarily nowadays - a business - thanks to Bernie) for encouraging more proper female participation in the sport.

Remember 100 years ago all these sorts of arguments were being used to stop women competing in most sports. It was only 40 or so years ago that they were "allowed" to run longer distances for example. The arguments used then have since been found to be rubbish and in the future those used in motorsport now to preclude women will also be found to be rubbish

Rant/lecture over.

The difference being, that women compete in women-only competitions. In most sports, the women's records aren't as impressive as the men's. They don't compete directly with men. There may be the odd exception, but on the whole, it's undeniably true.

I think this is the reason women don't do well in F1: there isn't a separate women's series!

And can you imagine the carnage in the parc ferm

That sounds like Sarah Fisher who was competeing in the Indy Racing League. Katherine Legge also races in the US. Fisher did demonstration laps in the McLaren F1 car at I thinki it was Indianapolis.
