TPM warning yesterday

Featured Replies

I run 38 at the front and back.

Inside the fuel cap says 3 occupants = 2.1 all round.

For comfort - to reduce perceived ride harshness.

Not economy.

Same as ,

Also Run at 38/38 PSI , this was at Tyre Tech's Suggestion.

Recently replaced at 55,000 Km. not bad for original Tyre's,

There was still Tread just as Tread Knobs were showing, but with Wet Season approaching need Replacing,

For Safety Sake of "Snowman" & Family.

Ride was not Harsh or did not slide when "Hoon" takes over and I become Race Driver at Round A  About's.

I go by what the manufacturer states on the tank cover, 2.1 bar or 30.4579 psi for those who want to be precise. When taught mathes I was told to round down if below 0.5. This also collaborates with most online tyre pressure check sites, bar one. All this must be done when the tyres are cold.

Those pressures are an admission that SUVs by nature have a somewhat firm to harsh ride and lower pressures are a way of reducing complaints from customers who have never had one and think there is a problem.

My priority is economy and longevity and just accept the ride as inevitable.

Tyre manufacturers beg to differ also.

Safety comes first.

I always use the manufacturers recommended values and check the pressures with a manual gauge despite the monitor, in so doing I get a keek at the condition of the outer tyre wall, ie looking for bubbles, golf balls etc.

Perhaps it's me but I would have thought the vehicle manufacturer would be the best source for what is the correct tyre pressure for one of their own vehicles? A tyre is a tyre but the vehicle it is keeping off the road may be very different to another vehicle using the same tyre size/type.

Here, we have a number of posters who are operating different spec (model/engine/tyre size Yeti). CR170 4x4 say 2.2 bar all round in normal use so, according to my gauges, that's what I use. That said, the fronts need replacing in the spring (Nokian winters on at the mo ready for the cold weather....) and they have worn the centre of the tread a little bit more than the edges so I may drop it a bit. That I put down to gauge inaccuracies.

I really can't grasp the stated concept of over inflating the tyres to allegedly increase the economy over ride and grip....

Oops, not above.

I have gone from Yeti to Yeti but also bought a Citigo.

Tyre manufacturers have their own priorities.

During emission testing I'll bet they aren't at 'manufacturers settings'.

Skoda etc compromise for ride and noise.

There are some on here who think they are better qualified than the experts.

I prefer to follow the figures in the Handbook and the on the fuel flap!!

I agree with the last 3 above, I stick to recommended values, it is only on my Marlin, see pic, that I use vastly different pressures because the vehicle is much lighter than its origin, usually run on pressures around 20psi to prevent an overly stiff/hard suspension, using sidewall suppleness to absorb some of the shock/bounce coming up into the car!
