Vrs tsi acceleration

Featured Replies

Has anyone measured accurately the 0-60 of the mk3 vrs tsi.(without smoke billowing from the tyres). Recently I've found I have been able to close the gap,and probably pass if they had moved over, both the 3.0 TDI Audi A5 coupe and the Polo 3.2 R32. Mines the estate which is supposed to be slightly slower than the hatch.

No. Polo 3.2? Think you mean the golf r32 possibly. I was going to mention both of the cars you had a run with have shorter gearing but noticed your Tsi is a dsg.

I have a manual Tsi which will hit 60 mph in second gear but think most of vag dsgs (in this type of car) need to change to third. I've always been surprised by the power delivery of the vrs and coupled with a good launch so have a few other drivers !!

Seemed small for a Golf(narrow). Thought I saw one when I googled. But checked again, your right. It was 06-00 this morning, wasn't fully awake......

You posted twice this morning,

http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/362309-vrs-tsi-acceleration

You get 'VW Polo R (Style)

 which are 1.2 Litre engines.

Only a single tail pipe though.

Then a very limited VW Polo R AWD 250 bhp.

& a even more limited VW Polo R WRC 318 bhp

Posted twice this morning because, A/most sensible people were still in bed B/slow mobile web, thought it hadn't gone. If it was a Polo maybe they had an inferiority complex and bought the R32 badge. Bottom left hand corner of boot lid. It's probably on my dash cam if it's working properly, but that's another story.

I stand corrected. Found the car on my dash cam. Put its reg in the Halfords web site. It IS a Golf R32. Game over.....

Many like to play the game where they let you think you are away to take them like a King,

and then they push the throttle and just can keep you behind.

Even more do not even notice you are there,

and some never know there is a race on because they just want to get where they are going.

TSI VRS is definitely quicker than stock figures suggest, however that's largely down to them putting out a little more than quoted power.

My hatch DSG stock was able to achieve a GPS verified 0-60 of 6 seconds with a now mapped best time of 5.27, yep you read right, might have something to do with the 330bhp+ and 368flbt I now have.

Stock my car was putting out 246bhp and 268flbt (verified across two dyno's)

Stock TSI is quick and helped by a healthy dollop of torque in a relatively light weight car make for swift progress.

Word of caution though, go pedal is not an off and on switch, beware of the wet weather, get decent tyres and you'll be able to launch well and keep pace with a fair few motors out there.

Who has written your Re-map?

That is an amazing amount of torque you are getting from a 2.0l TSI

The 2015 Audi RS3 2.5 5 Cylinder with 362 hp has 343 lb-ft / 465Nm by Audi's figures.

VW should have just gone with your mods and not bothered with any further engine development.

I know this is a tsi thread but does anyone reckon a sub 6 second time is possible in the diesel without breaking the bank, I.e. A tuning box and a few extras

No

So I should have sold my left kidney and bought the golf R estate

I have driven at length both manual and dsg golf r. IMHO the launch is the real difference here especially dsg equipped cars. I love driving the manual r though. And until 70mph + there really isn't as much in it as you would think.

Blimey, good morning to you too  :D  :D

They're all running at about that level, APR, Revo, Superchips. In fact the Golf R with a Revo remap has just cracked the 0-100mph in 9.7 seconds on 360bhp and 368 flbt  :p  :p

I'm sorry my VRS TSI seems to bother you (I mention this because of your snide comment above) and that it's a quick car with just a remap, however that's a fact and proven by many others that have the map on their 2.0 TSI engine. In fact the VW Golf GTI MK7 APR with remap constantly achieves 0-60 in 5.6 seconds and 0-100mph in just over 11 with a little less power than mine, albeit same 368flbt.

My map has been on the car for nearly 25k miles and yesterday it returned 47mpg on a 70mph drive back from Bedford, very good considering the power, albeit you drive within that band of power and the mpg take a dive off a cliff  :D  :D

Like I said to others though, you have to be careful as during my timed runs I also achieved a 7 second 0-60 dash as just couldn't get the power down!!

Calm down there, I just asked,  it does not 'Bother me',  it interests me, and seeing as it is a Forum,

maybe it interests others,

and i know a bit about REVO, APR, SuperChips and other Mappers, quite a bit about them, and Dynos.

So can you say who did your map that has been on for 25,000 miles now?

Sorry i have not read any previous stuff on your cars mods.

Yep, it's the way you ask though sometimes mate!

As for the map, my car was the Superchips development car so had the chance to take it up to 346bhp and 368flbt.

I don't think I'd win too many races from stand still as getting the power down is just crazy unless bone dry and believe it or not you have to be very gentle with the go pedal, however once rolling, mid range and top end are just amazing with so much power at your disposal it does take a few by surprise.

Great motor the TSI lump and should you be able to control yourself long enough, very economical.

After 25k miles with them map on (total miles now up to 37k), the car's still going strong, levelling out nicely and pricing to be a very easy car to cover the mileage in.

Must be the way you read it, because it is written as is.

Funny as it might seen i have been in a 360+ bhp Golf R,

and been there when it has done 1/4 mile runs.

It would be worth taking your car up to Scotland Next Year for the Ultimate Scottish Street Car

& see how it compares in the FWD class.

Or even 'German Invasion' Day this year.

Which Golf R mate as the MK7 can pull some very special times on the 1/4 miles with remap,..

Mine struggles a lot with the power as you'd expect although when it finds grip in gear is very impressive, as you'd no doubt expect.

Various Golfs and a few Golf R's Mk6 & Mk7's, Audis ,Skodas in lots of variety of states of tune, & a variety of light to extreme modifications including twin engine Golfs.

My mate has a Workshop doing the work & a Dynamic AWD Dyno doing cars for Road & Track.

My opinion is that sub 6-seconds is possible with the TDI, but you will need the following:-

*DSG

*A good remap or tuning box

*Sticky tires and grippy tarmac

Traction will be the main limiter. Getting all the power down in 1st is impossible, and 2nd struggles using OEM tires within my stock TSI. A tuned TDI will push similar BHP as a TSI and have much more torque. Give it some sticky tires and <6 secs is possible. I used to do late 5's within a UK 215PS Impreza, where a third of a second was lost with the 2nd-gear change.

Sticky tyres = a grand, which lasting about 3 to 5K ain't "without breaking the bank" but, hey everybodies bank account is different.

I agree. Grip is the probably the main issue.

The 184bhp diesel 4x4 (not the Scout) does 0-100kmh in 7.1 if my memory serves me right.
