Mid-life crisis car

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, i'm married with 3 kids and was running a Toyota Aygo. Long story short, got bored and purchased 06 VRS. It was pretty much standard except it had leather seats. Been viewing threads in this forum for a while when trying to pick up a VRS so plan to do some of the basic mods.

Normally ones with leather are the SE normally in the colour blue

But it's an 06 so not an SE

It's silver, got a £950 receipt with car for the leather getting done in 2013. I had planned to post some pics but haven't worked out how to at moment.

Use Google and search for a image hosting site to upload your image files, once uploaded it gives you a few links you can use to upload images straight to the thread.

I find photobucket is best. I tried flicker, but it didn't work on my phone. Photobucket app on iPhone is great for uploading on here.

Sounds nice get some pics up!

Is it genuine skoda leather or done somewhere else? Probably the latter as I think it was a £1300+ option from skoda

Was about to pull the trigger on a cupra splitter but a few things came up which need my attention;

I've got the dreaded rear door seal leak on both sides, so bought some door card clips and plumbers gold and will attempt this when I've got a few dry days off work.

Also car was due a service so stuck it in a local VAG specialists. A few things cropped up on top of that which I wasn't expecting;

Cracked servo pipe - Paid £25 parts, £25 labour to sort it.

Front Discs and Pads - Quoted £176.88 inc vat

Console bushes have been incorrectly fitted and wrong type - Quoted £208.46 inc vat

N/S/F CV boot perished - Quoted £113.22 inc vat

O/S/F track rod end boot split - Quoted £90.16 plus vat

Intercooler Seal - Quoted £48 inc vat

Brake Fluid Change - £48 inc vat

Air Con Service £48 inc vat

Any advice on above list welcome as I sob in the corner!!! Not to mention cambelt and water pump probably needs done sooner rather than later.

Dude the servo pipe takes like 1 minute to fit yourself. Seriously don't pay someone a penny to do it.

Front discs and pads can be done easily yourself

Probably for less than £50

Console bushes get some psb bushes for £25 lifetime warranty

All of those bits except the air con can be done very very cheaply.

The brake fluid change and ac service is dearer than the Skoda dealer.

Car looks nice mate!

Did you buy from a dealer looks like on the pics?

If so did it come with 12 months mot as that list has lots of items that would fail and i wouldn't be happy getting all that sorted after just buying it from a dealer!!

I did the front and rear discs and pads on mine and I'm useless, they were easy and really cheap or buy better quality as you are doing it yourself !!

It was purchased from an independent garage. It came with 12 months MOT and see below a picture of it.

After he showed me MOT I told them I wanted new rear brake discs and pads before I completed the purchase, to which they agreed. As to the track rod end issues they said they were just dust covers and a few quid to replace.

Took it back to garage where I bought it from this morning and they're gonna replace front brake discs/pads and both track rod ends for me. They're also gonna take a look at the console bushes, they test drove it and thought if there were any issues with them then you would feel it and they thought they were fine.

Pretty happy with that for time being.

yeah it was worth taking it back then hope you get it all sorted out.

Got car back this afternoon after I waited while they done it, they showed me front discs and pads they took off to replace and there was nothing wrong with them, they probs weren't more than a year old. Can't believe a VAG specialist would try and rip me off like that.

Why? A vag specialist is not a holy monk. Where I work customers are sent a video of whatever is wrong with the vehicle or a photo . That way no arguments.

Yup, lesson learn't.

A bad garage will only fool you once because you won't go back.
