Instrument cluster brightness control

Featured Replies

ive read the manual but can't seem to find how you adjust the brightness of the instrument cluster?

All other cars I've had, have a rheostat to eith dim or brighten the cluster

On the Yeti there is a roll switch next to the main light switch. It only works when parking, low and high beam is switched on.

Think it's done via the car settings on the Radio.

■ With the ignition switched on the instruments are also illuminated. The brightness of the instrument illumination is set automatically depending on the ambient lighting throughout.

I noticed that today. At first I could see only the speedo /rev counter needles brightly but the numbers were dim. A while later they were all reasonable.

The ambient lighting is set in the lighting section of car settings in the radio.

It is normal for the dial needles to light up only at night when you unlock the car. It is a 'style thing'.

There is a user on MK7 forum called DV52 who is doing ALOT of research into the auto interior lighting for the dash..........................basically it is the same as in airplane cockpits, there is a sensor below the MFD & it adjusts the backlight value.......also the sped of lighting up is different to diming down....................there are loads of values in various modules which control all the lighting curves..........I have had a look in VCDS & it made my head hurt.....................

Something I couldn't justify spending any time on given the benefits .....

I think xpower has had some results playing with the settings though

I have, basically you can set the minimum brightness amount that the dials will dim to (when the headlights are off - in off or auto)

It doesn't affect the dials getting brighter when the glaring sun comes out, but will stop them going dim at dusk / when the sunlight isn't so bright etc.

Had this on my Audi since 1998....works a treat. Pass through a tunnel or dark wooded area and the complete dash turns red. How technology has....stood still in this respect.

For those of you who have driven the car in darkness, how bright are the instruments at night?

I like them to be very dim at night.

I cant test my self as it wont start get dark for another month.

You can set them to quite a low level of 'dimness' via car settings on the radio (I run at about 60% brightness)

I would like to do this but haven't found out how to - control through the touchscreen only seems to be able to set the max brightness.

Can you give more details please?

Instruments then adaptations, will post up the channels to change when I can get to my laptop :-)

Instruments 17

Security access code 20103

Adaptations -> go to below channel:

(11)-dimming_characteristic_curve_adjustment_clock_dial_day-X6

change from FD to 64

Thanks xpower, now I know what needs doing I'll try to get this sorted. Information much appreciated.
