Detailed the Fabia, Before & After Pics

Good Evening All,

 

After much deliberation I bought a new camera recently, opting for the Canon Powershot SX510 HS, and have some photos of the car taken with said unit. Thanks to those for their input on my thread asking advice on cameras. It seems a decent little thing, hopefully the photos will confirm that!

 

Anyway, onto the stuff you want to hear about. So the car was looking a little dull after it being a while since I last dusted off the DA and I had the luxuries of some time off and decent weather so got cracking. I was able to use a few new (to me) products during the process, some purchased and some borrowed (cheers Hunty) and am very impressed with the results and use of them.

 

So, the process:

 

 

• Jet washed with the Karcher.
• Snow foamed with Bilt Hamber Autofoam.
• Jet washed.
• Washed using 2BM, Dooka Wash Pad and Meguiars Detailing Range Shampoo.
• Jet washed.
• CarPro TRiX applied, left to dwell then agitated.
• Jet washed.
• Clayed with Bilt Hamber Autoclay.
• Jet washed.
• Washed again with 2BM etc.
• Dried.
• Machined with DAS6 Pro using Scholl Concepts S17+ and CG Hexlogic Pads.
• Second stage polish with Menzerna Final Finish and finishing pads.
• Final stage with Prima Amigo and finishing pads.
• Sealed with Angelwax Desireable.
• Engine bay cleaned up.
• Changed wheels from standard vRS to Octavia Spiders, Meguiars Endurance Tyre Gel applied.

I think that covers the process really. The new products to me were the foam, the Final Finish, Prima Amigo and the Angelwax. The foam worked really well, doesn't foam as thick as Ultimate Snow Foam that I've used prior to this but it performs perfectly and smells lovely. The Final Finish is great too, added depth to the finish nicely and was easy to work. The Prima Amigo is a real revelation; absolute doddle to work and the feel it leaves is unreal. I'll be buying some of that, along with the Angelwax too. That stuff is mega, with water behaviour like I've never seen before.

 

I'm sure you've read enough by now. However, I'd like to thank you guys for your help and advice on here. Numerous times I've asked for recommendations and so on and have always had helpful responses; some of which aided my product selection for this detail. I'm only an enthusiast, hence why I ask for the informed opinions of folk on here who have been there and done it. So thank you to folk like Samuir (Ste), ChrisRS, Northern Monkey and of course my good pal Hunty. That isn't an exhaustive list, but you know who you are if I've missed you out. I appreciate your help and have a nine year old car I'm rather proud of.

The camera takes a great picture buddy and really shows the finish off.

Hey Clarkey! It has been a while since you popped round to my place – was that last summer?

 

 

Wow – on the detailing effort, what more can I say – absolutely stunning work my friend.

Looks like you put in quite a shift on the old girl – how many hours work start to finish?

 

An interesting selection of products used on there too; and good write-up;

One of the best we have had on the forum for quite some time it must be said.

 

Nice to see Angelwax Desirable on the car btw – one of my favourites in the wax collection.

Primo Amigo is on my list of products to test as well – great results; the gloss levels look immense!

 

Finally – nice to see some pics from the new camera and I like the new wheels too.

I assume you are well chuffed with the upgrade on both fronts :sun:

 

 

I certainly hope we see more threads from you buddy – quality stuff! :yes:

Prima Amigo is a decent product Ste. It isn't strong on fillers at all; very minor swirl filling ability. But it has a significant darkening effect and leaves and immense gloss. It is a must in a detailing arsenal as it also gives an amazing look on light colours as well, the metallic flake pop it gave on my silver vRS was unbeatable.

Indeed it was Ste I believe, I still have the BSD sample from you too. Though I've just taken delivery of two 750ml bottles from ECP for the princely sum of £13.98. Bargain. I've applied some to the car over the three layers of Desireable. I have some beading shots to upload actually.

Sure I can facilitate some sample handovers between Ste and Hunty. Seeing Hunty on Sunday and Tuesday and soon have a week off so it might save you boys some postage.

Oh and in total I think I spent about twelve hours on this detail. With swapping wheels, polishing the exhaust, touching up stone chips plus all the machine polishing it soon added up.

That was over three separate days mind. I'm a slow worker when it comes to detailing, but I had the time.

You've inspired me.  I got out and worked on another section of my own car. No new photos but the near side, front and rear bumper now match the off side for shine

then a Definitive Detail...... DW Cora and QD Pro applied.

Just thought, if you need anything specific....tyre dressing, QD, shampoo???.... what's not quite ticking the boxes in the current toolkit?
