mk3 Focus RS four wheel drive spec sheets.

Featured Replies

Pretty advanced stuff - and from a company that, whilst developing previous RS models, stated that an awd solution takes too much away from the driving experience - its an interesting u-turn for sure. It'll be the most fun out of the current crop of 30k hot hatches, Golf R and Type R included, imo. :)

Wrongly assumed the author of this thread

Thankfully

:)

It is all lovely and very advanced stuff, and not in the slightest relevant to the UK's Public Highways unless there is a Closed Road

Motorsport Event.

Ford do the Fiesta ST & Focus ST that drivers seem to like the feel of, and even FWD Diesel Versions,

then the have bigger Front and Part Time AWD cars already capable of doing double the UK national speed limits,

of just 50% above and not sliding off the road and staying on the correct side of the white line on corners.

As a exercise in showing what can be done, and they have done then that is achieved,

and as a promotional device for Ford around the world, that has been achieved,

but as to how many buy a New Focus RS and use much of its ability over a Focus ST, then that might depend on where they drive,

or if they buy for the statement it makes.

Surely some of the above statement could refer to any car capable of going at a speed over the national speed limit?

Which is probably relevant to any hot hatch or quicker type of car. Pretty sure the OP, myself and quite a few others would put the car to proper use. It would deal with my biggest issue of the Focus ST and that's its ability to put the power down cleanly and not torque steer when really pushing on. The track specific modes and launch control indicate that the car is deemed suitable for the track... so not just for road use - even more reason to see sense in how it does things and what it can do. And, yes as an example of what can be achieved and as a promotional device... it succeeds. Thats the whole point of a halo, flagship model such as this, surely?

Totally the point, to aspire to,  buy and use on track, in all weathers, use sportingly, or just as a look what i have,

they say clearly often, 'i never go off road and on track or break the speed limit, but i can afford a fast car.'

Its what all manufacturers do, and buyers like that.

They all go around the corners at 60 mph and we know about sporting and spirited driving.

But we know about driver involvement and the feeling of achievement, and the RS at 60 or 70 MPH

will not be giving that any more than a ST,  or even a 1.25 Litre Ford 3 Cylinder.

But it appears George that the RS is specifically set up to have a "fun" and "track" bias.

Where most cars in it's class don't.

A fair number of RS buyers will go on track IMO.

I certainly wouldn't buy a Ford to say "look at me, I can afford a flash car".

It's a Focus.

so GTI > R, in the real world of actually driving on actual roads? controversial!!

Not controversial really is it.

We all drive cars in towns and have more than the 40 bhp that is required for a passenger car at 40 mph.

& we mostly all have cars with more then 100 bhp that copes well on UK Speed Limits even with 4 on board.

Sporty cars and twice and three times more horse power than the cooking model has always been the way with manufacturers and

buyers of cars, bikes and other vehicles.

It is just the way it is.

You buy what you want, and manufacturers build them on the hope they are bought.

GT, GTI, GTD, GTE, R, Type R, S, ST, STI, RS will always be options hopefully,

Actually Skoda is really the one manufacturer that keeps going big on their Motorsport Heritage & Success,

Rallying Success, and offers no actually 'Fast' (proper fast RS like) or well handling cars, but thinks ''Sporty Looks' are enough,

but then that will be down to the Volkswagen Group not having vehicles that might take sales from

those wanting Hot Models and having to go VW, Audi and even Seat.

When are you putting your deposit down - test drive organised yet? lol

My name is on the list, but they aren't taking orders yet.

If Mountune do an official tweak with warranty it could be a most interesting car.

And a 5 door so good for family too.

Could be looking at a 350+bhp 5 door hatch that's manual, has very effective torque vectoring and a drift button.  Plus warranty.

Certainly sounds interesting.  Especially if they manage to keep the handling Ford manage these days which generally beats the competition for fun and involvement.

Got to be worth a try anyway. :)

Is this a tweak for you tracking it, or do you think it might be lacking for road use?

I realise this isn't the ideal place for it, but can you *please* sort out the formatting of your posts and not just chuck in a carriage return whenever you feel like it, part way through a sentence. It's very annoying and makes posts harder to read.

Thanks

No, sorry.  Maybe just ignore them if it is an issue.

?

What is a carriage return, which button do i press on my phone?

Only a year to wait and time to build up the threads with updates etc.

Only one way to sort this out -"FIGHT"!

Golf R400 might be announced before then.

It's the 'enter' button George.

The 'problem' seems to occur quite often after you've had a comma if that helps? Maybe if you're on your phone then you're  pressing the enter button to make it look better for yourself but as DR. Z says, it looks to 'computer' users that you're only using half a line.

I track all of my cars that are capable George.

It's how you find out how good they really are.

Maybe the new Focus RS will be good as it comes then.

They have had the development time, its not being rushed out.

I've driven a Focus ST diesel, & I can't see where the "fun" is..

The car stopped OK & had quick steering, but didn't offer any real performance.

I suppose a new 4wd ST will be a halo car for Ford, but it's still a Focus.

You are only a month behind others , if you had viewed the 1st RS THREAD.

Just reminding people ,who have place deposits, a year early, how crap in sounds in pre-production set up.

Lots of things can change with a car between pre-production and production

Lets all hope the same can be said of your biased pro-VW anti-everything else posts?

Lets not let this go the same way as other threads!
