Should we look to get rid?

Featured Replies

SWMBO has a Citigo and reading some sites there are claims of gearbox and clutch failures?

Ours is just going in for new clutch pedal box bits due to the click - under warranty.

But the warranty runs out in Sept this year should we keep it or look elsewhere?

It has just turned 6k on it from new, so not sure when the clutches or gearboxes are failing if they are?

So it's subjected to very short journeys with lots of gear change? Traffic work?

I have 3 young friends, who have Citigos, each has done more than 6k miles in less than a year from new - currently no problems.

I nick it to pop to local supermarket which is about a 4 mile round trip every now and then.

Wifey goes once a fortnight to parents about a 45/50 mile round trip on good country roads.

So not exclusively town work, in fact living out on Dartmoor it gets a sensible run.

So what do Skoda Dealers say about your wife's car plight. How common is it on the Citigo history file at Skoda UK.

The clutch clunk/click is very common not sure about failures but on Honest John under Citigo/Up & Mii they report " high incidence" of clutch & gearbox failures?

Do the gearbox failures relate to ASG or manual mainly or both suffer.

Presumably  the clutch is similar to the lower powered Fabias

IIRC the clutch pedal box is just the bit that the pedal connects to the car, ie in the cabin, and miles away from clutch/gearbox.

Poor design then - inherent weakness built in by Skoda?

Personally I haven't heard about this issue before.

I know there are some problems currently with ASG. - but as usual not clearly defined by Skoda UK.

It's a cracking little car though . http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/skoda/citigo/91979/city-car-of-the-year-2015-skoda-citigo

Apparently the clutch pedal box is the bit that causes the infamous "clutch click" which is what our car has had off and on from new.

My sister bought a second hand Citigo sport on a 63 plate a few weeks ago and the dealer picked up on the clutch click and have replaced some parts in the pedal box which has cleared the click.

swmbo's is Booked now as we have suffered the click for so long but didn't know they were now fixing them.

Other than that it is fine, however with the advent of the warranty due to expire in September and alleged reports of gearbox/ clutch failure incidents being high.

Should I consider upgrading?

Can you not extend the warranty for a small cost?

What are the ASG problems? Thanks. Dennis.

Newer Cotigo's clutch pedal doesn't click, and gearbox is quieter. Cannot say when changes were made though. Let's say from 2015. We received ours in February. Third Citigo is coming within month or so. We are not going to upgrade, but enjoy these reasonable priced Citigos. ;-)

Suggest you have a word with Skoda UK or dealer service.

I know about 3 car being investigated at a Bath Skoda Dealership.

Will clarify later in the week,if more details available, as a neighbour is having her ASG looked at.

Mind you sounds like they changed the reverse selection which is a good thing.

I nearly threw swmbo's gearbox on the dual carriageway the other day. So used to a 6 speed box so decided to find the Citigo's sixth gear unfortunately it is reverse :(

Most remember not to expect so much from a wheezy 60bhp!

mine is just over 2 years old with 20k on the clock, in traffic 90% of it's life. No issues to really report on either the clutch or the gearbox. Maybe when cold it has a little hic up with trying to get in to reverse.

It's also done a few "events".............again no issues to report!

Most of the time gearbox and clutch issues are related to the user.

My aunt has a ASG (god knows why it's a vile automatic gearbox), she had issues with it losing gears, had the "ecu/control module" replace and it's now like a different car. Would suggest that if you've got issues to take it in for the "update" or if needed replacement brain.

I sold mine on 11k miles and 2 years old. It was used on long and short journeys but I would say mainly a city car. It was a peach of a gearbox, effortless change save for a sticky reverse selection sometimes when cold. My Toledo is like that sometimes too, that's on 3.6k miles. I've only really seen problems about the pedal click which can be solved with a upgraded part.

Yes I looked for sixth gear a few times with my sons old Citigo. :notme:

The newer Citigos have a gate on reverse so you can't (noisily)  try and find another Gear....

I extended my warranty to five years when placing the order...it has to be done on ordering, if you want the original factory warranty extended by one or two years....(unless they've changed things since 2013).

Picking up a new Golf tomorrow and I was told VW will allow me to extend my warranty on it with VW as I understand, upto nearly the expiry of the main 3 year warranty.

But then I may have misunderstood :)

as my fabia came up to 3 years old I got a letter from the AA (who now run skoda assist) asking if I wanted to extend my warranty with a genuine skoda assist, I think it was £80ish for 1 year and about £150ish for two year extension

so it seems not a bad deal compared to some of the insurance based schemes the dealers are pushing which are more expensive and cover less and with more exclusions
