HEADS UP - for anyone after a 3.6 V6 4x4

Featured Replies

Does anyone on here have any idea of actual fuel consumption? ( V6, of course!)

I've asked two dealers that have V6's for sale to check the long-term consumption figure & they came back with 16 & 19 mpg!

That's about 1/2, or less than my 2.0 TSi manages, so I'm beginning to think that a V6 upgrade might be a waste of time / money!

Commenting based on the V6 engine but in the R36 application.... i'll quote the two extremes I have recorded.

Best from a tank was 400miles ie. 28mpg; onboard computer reported 32mpg for this trip!

Worst mileage seen was around 220 miles ie 16mpg; but it was a lot of local driving and stop/start.

(assumes approx. 1 gallon in the tank on the above numbers)

Okay, I've answered this a few times on here to keep the 3.6 doom merchants at bay :D

In reality (not maxi-dot), and as long as you appreciate that this is not some diesel gulping eco barge, on a decent long motorway run at 75mph ish loaded up I get 30mpg.

Work run (15 mile trip one way) around 25/27 mpg.

Hooning in sport mode on the paddles around 18/21mpg.

I appreciate that its not 'dead accurate' but based on 10 months of use running the tank to fumes and filling to brim. It's in line with the previous 3.5 V6 I had (a Vel Satis with the 350Z engine) and to be honest the 3.6 works less hard to shift a big car.

Use it in lazy/slushomatic 'D' mode and you may well get more on a run. Hoon it in sport with the paddles keeping it fully 'alive' and you may drop to 18mpg full time.

Eiher way its a great engine but not the MOST economical. But not bad in my book (and to be honest I don't care about MPG as my commute is short...but fun factor high!). Oh, and its not an Audi  :p  :x

Thanks both for your thoughts / info.

I've lived with three V6 Mondeos, (& kept proper records),  mpg varied from 26 to 31, with the 3 litre being slightly better than the two 2.5's.

All manuals, a 5 speed & then two 6-speeds, & not too much hooning.

I'd have to check the data from my current 2.0 TSI DSG Superb but I don't think it's ever dropped below 30 mpg, so running a V6  is going to be noticeably  more expensive.

I'm sure that the V6 will be quicker & more civilised, but my remapped 2.0 litre wouldn't be far behind it, (249 bhp / 268 ft lbs), so it's possible that I might be wasting my pennies

on on up-grade. (Cars I'm looking at are in the £23K - £25K bracket, probably £12K - £14K cost to change, perhaps not such great value for money!)

Maybe I should wait for a year or so, & look out for a 6-month old 2280ps Superb 3?

Thanks again, DC

If your budget is23k a 15,000 car (3.6) is a bargain, and 8k buys you a load of petrol, go to your grave thinking I really pleased I was frugal with fuel, or regret never having one?

I bet that would shift!  :D

Just got pics of the ex-cop V6. Shame it's been damaged in transit! Hence the low price. He awaiting parts from Skoda to repair. It's all cosmetic things, but would annoy me after a while. Price has dropped to £4995, but I'm sure some one could get him down to £4600 for it!! Also no service history

It's relatively easy to get a full print out of service history on an ex police vehicle. Just ask them and offer to put a few £££ in their Christmas or charity tin.

v6=a lot of nectar points  and hopefully not the other points

Haha my friends love me when it'd triple nectar points at the pumps! In fact my Shell drivers club card actually gives me vouchers off fuel too :)
