over heating problem

Featured Replies

right guys I've changed my headgasket again (twice in 3 weeks) im not loosing any water and oil/water is not mixing but if I give it some my temp light comes on (starts beeping) coolant does hasen't dropped ect.

things ive changed

water bottle and cap

temp sensor

coolant sensor

anyone got any other suggestions things driving me mad!

How do you know the coolant level isn't dropping if you're driving the car?

It's perfectly possible for the level to drop if the system pressurises while you're 'giving it some', take the level sensor out of the equation by shorting the plug out, if no warning light then that's your answer.

Yes.

and that will tell me sensor in the bottle is naffed yeh?

and that will tell me sensor in the bottle is naffed yeh?

No, that will tell you that the cooling system is pressurising causing the coolant level to drop sufficiently to trigger the low coolant warning lamp.

which means I need to change or fix?

3 headgaskets? Jesus time to find a new mechanic imo? :)

Pretty sure there is not a high temp warning light, as above its the coolant level warning light your on about.

Two things it can be, a faulty sensor/wiring, or as above you've still got cooling issues and its time for head gasket number 4...............

which means I need to change or fix?

Your block, head or HG, you still have a problem with combustion pressure leaking into the water jacket.

same problem as last head this time round it had a headstud kit fitted so im thinking block lucky I got a spare just got to decide wether im going to bore it out and forge it now :( all before sept's track day aswell. the joys

Surely you replaced the water pump at the same time as the cambelt when you changed the head? I can't believe you're tuning (and wrecking) an engine that's in such desperate need of basic service items.

You've still got major problems if it's got hot with no stat.

Only water pumps I've seen fail like that are the ones in V6 Mondeos with the plastic impellers.

How much pressure was in the cooling system after your bypass blast?

for the record car has full history belt was changed 15k ago so transferred it on to donar engine around 6k ago along with new water pump but they can fail at anytime!

a lot of pressure but water didn't drop no coolant loss just temp gauge went right up after 3 mile bypass flatout

Fan won't affect it much if you were driving, that's mainly for sitting in traffic etc...

Should be enough cold air flowing through the rad to keep it cool when driving.

If you've took the thermostat out and it's pressurising it still, it's got to be head gasket or along them lines.

just undone the bottom rad hose and it released a lot of air filled system back up and just had another blast and all seems ok TOUCH WOOD only time will tell

Strange, the bottom hose should have no air. When bleeding you release the highest pipe with coolant in. Make sure you have the temp inside the car set to full warm, fill the bottle and go for a slow drive. I've always went along the road with speed bumps, so swear that helps to shake air bubbles out! :D

Should bleed quickly with no thermostat in as well.

Steve, sack the mechanic, he's a blundering pikey imbecile, god alone knows what other incredibly basic and juvenile errors await you every time you start that car.

I can't wait for the next thrilling installment  :D
