Upgrade interior light

Thanks for checking people :)

I was just thinking I could cheat and take a different wire already in the roof lining to splice into.

Guess I'll start pulling trim off and get the test light out!

Maybe I'll be lucky enough to be able to see all the specs of broken glass in my car one day... If I wire it up correctly that is.

  • This was Gee's old car so you have Charlie lol. Sorry for poor pictures

  • Well when you drive around in with this, whats a little bit more blue lol

I've found this. Connecting it looks pretty easy. There should be a 3 pins connector on the car (C[1-3]) and a six pins connector on the W8 (W[1-6]).

C1 - W3

C2 - W5

C3 - W4

There that comes from the headlights switch goes into W1.

W2&6 - no connections at all.

I might be doing this along with a set of interior lights for the passengers from the back along with the second boot, reverse and rear fog light.

Looks a good link, thanks!

Basically I'm going to put a test light on the current switch and check if any live goes to any of them when I switch the lights on (I doubt it now everyone says they don't light up)

Then I'll pull the headlight switch out and do the same for that, whichever one goes live when I switch the sidelights on I'll splice into it and run it up to the light fitting.

Easy job really just fiddley with the a pillar trims and roof lining.

Spent abit of time this morning wiring it in, only to find its red and not white like I was told. Very annoying.

Should be pretty easy to change those to white though mate. The LEDs are about 2.50 for about 10 if I remember correctly.

Bit of soldering, job done :)

Well done on getting it Sussed out!

The two mood lights look ok to change, you can see them no problem, but the lights for the switches are quite hidden and not very accessible....

Would rather keep an eye out or swap for a Skoda superb one really.

Yeah soldering should be simple enough, if not..erm..Charlie?

If he wants to do it message me please :)

I've understood that it's pretty easy to break the plastic between the buttons when disassembling it .. you should be extra careful when doing it.

Only just seen this, as I could of helped out. I've got this light with blue LEDs for the switches.

Looks much better than standard imo

Pretty sure I've converted one of these before for Gee. I don't have a soldering iron at the moment otherwise I'd gladly help you out :)

Might pop into maplins or something and get some little leds.

Unless anyone has links to good bright white ones and a green that matches Skoda green.

Don't think you'll find skoda green tbh. Most of the aftermarket ones are brighter.

A couple of white 3mm LEDs should do the trick :)

hmm, is that the only problem they are to bright? think it would be possible to use a tint spray on the inside of the buttons or somthing to dull it down?

or better off pulling a radio to pieces for example and removing the leds from that and fitting them in the light?

or is that a crazy idea :D

Hmm removing the LEDs from old boards etc usually kills them tbh

They're the wrong kind. :)

Oh right, well you can get SMD ones and others on ebay still :)
