Just a little p****d off.

Featured Replies

Picked up a 2012 Fabia 1.2 TDI Greenline on Saturday from a Skoda main dealer. Lovely car, described in the advert on the dealer's website as having "Telephone preparation GSM II with Bluetooth"

Tries to connect up-no Bluetooth. Checked the option codes-9WO-"W/o telephone preparation and Bluetooth".

Spoke to the salesman today after calling Sunday am when he wasn't in. His brand manager told him that there was a disclaimer on the advert to the effect that they had done everything to get spec right but errors are made and we're not responsible if you didn't check everything is as per the advert. He sent me a copy of an advert for the car which has the disclaimer on but the advert on their own site doesn't have the disclaimer and none of their current ads do either. I have copies of all of them. I only saw the car on their website so an advert on the Skoda UK site or elsewhere has no relevance at all.

Battle is about to commence. Update tomorrow following a call from the brand manager after sending him a copy of the advert without the disclaimer.

Details of the dealer will be disclosed in due course after I see how things pan out.

Sharp practice indeed, lets see what the next '' wriggle '' is to avoid responsibility. What exactly do you want the outcome to be with this ? Monies paid for the loss of what they advertised or simply to return the car and get a refund ?

I certainly don't want a refund. What I really want is them to fit the kit the car should have.

curious if it was my old GLII

was it a red estate? was at a dealers in kent not sure if it was sold or just moved round the system

  • Author

No, it's a Pacific blue H/B.

not my old wagon then, as far as I am aware there was no option for Bluetooth on the GLII

you weren't even allowed a spare wheel

  • Author

It has a spare wheel and Amundsen, climatronic and one or two other options.

Would you have bought the car if you had realised there was no Bluetooth on it? I can understand you feeling annoyed about the situation but I have to say I also agree with the dealer in part - it is your responsibility to check the car has the spec you want before parting with any cash. Car dealers adverts are notorious for containing inaccuracies imho. Will keep my fingers crossed that you get a good result on this and the dealer is willing/able to retrofit a Bluetooth module for you. :-)

I'd try mentioning the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 - I'm no legal beagle and they may be able to wriggle out by relying on the disclaimer in relation to errors, but their description of the vehicle in the advertisement was clearly false.

It has been happening for years now as the 'Salespeople' take the information from the Skoda List of Standard and option parts as examples of what the vehicle might have.

Still today there are Skoda Dealerships showing MK2 Fabia vRS with Front Fog Lights,

and these were never even a Standard or Option on the cars.

The Dealer Principal knows exactly how they advertise the cars, and how the sales people in the Dealership sell them,

and should advise potential purchasers that they should go over what the vehicle has that they are looking at buying.

You were mis-sold, so talk with the Dealer Principal on how he / she intends resolving matters at their expense.

No point talking with Sales People or Sales Managers that just keep doing the same old same old day in and day out.

I believe that if you relied on the information contained in the Point of Sale ad THAT YOU READ, then the dealer is committing an offence. It is totally unreasonable to expect you, the purchaser to check every minute detail of the specification before taking delivery. You would literally be there all day & still not be certain that the vehicle was as described in the ad.

The fact that disclaimers were present in some Point of Sale material is irrelevant, - it wasn't present in the material that you relied on.

Good reason to get Trading Standards involved, I would have thought.

could Skoda UK not help?

There are times that Dealership Employees should stop digging themselves into a bigger hole.

Like the 'Brand Manager' mentioned in the OP.

They Mis-Sold. Mis-Represented the vehicle being sold.

Skoda UK do it all the time in Brochures & Adverts and it is ongoing now with the New Fabia & Mirrorlink.

A Skoda Dealership that has been that for even a year and are selling cars know well what the vehicle being sold has, has not,

or might have and should check this.

Its going to be down to the Dealership to do the right thing this time,

as they know,

it is easy to be Named & Shamed on the Internet, and that bothers them often more than Skoda UK Customer Services calling them.

There is no need to go over the car with a fine toothcombe checking all the standard items. Takes just 5 minutes or less to be sure the options listed are present on the car. Same as you would check the options you'd ordered on a new car were present and correct.

Let's wait and see what the dealer comes up with. They made a mistake now it's over to them to put it right :-)

A bluetooth module is one of the harder things though, especially if you arent familiar with how to navigate the cars menus n what not from the off, and with everything else youre looking at in a new vehicle.

If you know what i mean.. You cant physically see or touch the bluetooth module easily

True that, I was assuming a little prior knowledge. If I couldn't physically see the option I was paying for I'd at least ask for a demo. But maybe that's just me being a tricky customer and not trusting dealers as far as you can throw 'em lol.

Cant blame you tbh mate. You soon get that way after dealing with a few haha.

I'm no longer p****d off. Just had a call from the brand manager and a Bluetooth module is now going to be fitted after he perused the evidence I sent to him. Glad I didn't have to take it further, I really don't like stress very much. All sweetness and light and offering courtesy car while they do it.

Happy days. Glad to hear it.

Thats a good result

Well I had an almost exact problem; mine was a 2012 Octavia vRS advertised with telephone pre.

The day I collected it and paid in full.

Got about a mile from the dealer and asked my daughter to sort out connecting the phone.

It wouldn't connect, it had a standard Bolero with phone marked on it.

Turned around drove up to the front door and asked the salesman to connect my phone, he tried in vein and went and got a tech he couldn't either.

Then told sorry sir but it does not have Bluetooth!

I turned around put the keys on the salesman desk and said sort out a full refund, please.

Within 5 mins they arranged for a free of charge full upgrade to a Kenwood DNX 521 DAB unit :)))

Good result and so they should.

That's how it should be. Mistakes happen (a lot with Skoda adverts) but if they rectify it promptly and to your satisfaction it can be forgiven.

As said in previous posts by fabiamk2se it pays to be polite but firm.

Glad that you got this sorted out quickly and to your satisfaction, glad I was able to help in a small way ;)
