Condensation on inside of windows !!!!!!!!

Featured Replies

Since we moved house the wifes car now has to live outside. Since the onset of the cold weather recently, condensation is apparent on the inside of the car windows.

How is the caused ?? And how can we stop it ??

Concerned that the car will become damp.

Hope you can help.

Regards

Mark Harrison

Are the carpets damp? :)

Chris

If it helps any but mine is really bad, it's even stained the glass. My front lights have also condensated lately.

I blame the fact that I dont use it during the week at the moment and it just sits in the cold wether all day and night :(

Carpets ok and not damp. just damned annoying to find all this condensation. If only it had A/C.

I get it in mine and the a/c helps to clear it but it's still annoying especially when the entire windscreen is soaking wet. I have tried applying anti-mist/fog stuff to the inside and still the same problem.

That and the squeaky seat are my only two niggles about my vRS. Hopefully the seat will get sorted tomorrow (second time round)

Do you use the AC all the time?

I have found that in both the Octavia nad me previous Astra, that driving round with the Air-con on all the time makes the car very liable to misting up.

Having had the climate set to Econ for a week or so I have noticed a big reduction in condensation.

i have found it happens with mine after i have given it a jet wash! it appears that the presure of the water gets into the rubber seal of the back doors,at the bottom next to the kick plate, and if i forget to dry them off and soak up the water with some tissue then the car will be wet in the morning. you have to sort of pull the seal back abit, not off or any thing but it's hard to explain in words. and see if there is any residual water, as the seal is still doing it's job and the water sits in there.

I had the condensation problem, until I changed the air control setting from screen only, to screen AND car. Seems to let the car breathe better when its not being used.

Might try that,my furby gets very steamed/misted up

I thought it is very natural, as long as the car inside is warmer than outside when parking over night/cold day. I bought a chamois coated foam rubber from tesco, and use it to wipe the windscreen before I set off.

In fact I am more worry about someone who drink tea or coke (etc) in my car, than pure water condensation.

I get the same, just wipe it off with a chamois

Never had this problem on any of my cars with or without air con!

I understand what people are saying but there is alot of water on the screen, regardless if the car has been used or not. The felicia doesn't get as wet!

My mondeo rear screen steams up really badly. Just this morning, even after driving for nearly an hour the screen still had mist on it. The reason for it I am aware of as I only fixed it last week, the car was leaking from around the rear light cluster seal and the carpet is still damp. Also some water in the spare wheel well to clear out.

If there's been ONE thing that's been a bugbear over my Alfa it is this damn condensation on the Fabia vRS. My old Corsa used to do the same thing though. Where should I be looking for problems?

I dont know the reasons why but this is what I do to make condensation disappear on my car.

Turn on the blower full cold, windscreen only and hit the air-con button.

Screen clears then I gradually turn up the temp to about halfway hot/cold over a few mins

Then i turn off air-con leave blower on low about in the middle with it directed at front screen only and all is fine and dandy.

:D

p.s. if it reappears i just go back to full cold with air-con and it vanishes within about 2 seconds

Surely condensation will always occur as long as the inside of the car is warmer than the outside? As the warm air inside will hit the cold glass.

The car is well insulated and will retain heat inside whilst outside will get cold during the night.

If you want to leave the car and not get condensation then you can leave the windows slightly open (with the alarm off). Not practical, but it'd work.

Or leave it in a garage where the temperature will be closer to that inside the car.

But I stopped with the science in year 11, so don't quote me.

While this makes sense to me, it was never an issue with my Octy 2... It's already becoming a pain in the **** on the furby, so much so that I've gone and got myself a bottle of rain-x anti fog...

I'd have thought the Octy would have been better insultated, indeed, it certainly didnt have that early morning chill in the car like the furby does.

Hi,

I have had the same problem with my fabia. The windscreen is always misty unless I run the a/c. I discovered that it was caused by water leaking in through the doors (see thread http://www.briskoda.net/forums/showthread.php?t=39444). Although it was not enough to make the carpets wet, it was making the door cards very wet.

I would check to see if this is not happening to your car. Mine is currently in the garage having the problem sorted.

Hope this helps. Andy.

hmmmmm I will look in to that, I have got the build up on the seal, never given it any thought or been worried.

Is there any mileage in the pollen filter theory?
