oooer...Not so Smart Link / Gate

Featured Replies

It would appear that Chrysler/Fiats integrated "Uconnect" wifi come infotainment system has an unfortunate loophole.

Oops, our smartlink concerns put in perspective then

Maybe missing out on smarting is not such a bad thing.

Oops.. I got both...

Oops. So did I.

Funny enough I did spec them but the salesman talked me out of it.

I wonder if - "My car was taken over by hackers" is a valid excuse when claiming on the insurance!

Sir I see you specced Smart Gate. You do know that means any fool with a laptop can take control of your car and drive you into a ditch. That sort of talk you out of it?

Or more that £100 could be better spent.

I had to get it after my daughter saw the app that let's kids pretend to drive the car. I didn't realise it would actually enable kids to drive the car!

Images of Maggie driving the car in the beginning of the Simpsons all of a sudden!

More it's not really worth the £100 option. As he asked how I played music....I replied by cd.

But then he also didn't tell me there would be no CD player lol

You folks beat me to it! I saw an article on this in the Independent and was going to post in the same context.

I suspect the combination of SmartGate and Park Assist enables this kind of hack to be carried out.

Given that smart gate has feck all to do with playing music he clearly hasn't got a clue what he's selling :-)

Looks like Chrysler have sealed the breach already

Well yes, I've never dealt with a garage that hasn't known the product inside out

off topic - but sadly my experience down "south" it seems to be the norm!

Even Mercedes Benz was terrible at this

Yes - but you have to go to the dealer to get the software updated...

And how many other holes are there? I guess this is just the tip of the iceberg.

I would say it is not really smartlink/smartgate that is the problem as it has a factory set password (admittedly not difficult to find if you see the car)

However the MIB2 Columbus comes with a WLAN mobile hotspot functionality which is eminently hackable. You can secure it with WPA/WPA2 but it arrives set to "no security level"

I wonder how many people bother to set a password for these things??
