Spare wheel & variable boot floor

Featured Replies

On the configurator it has two spare wheels, one for the variable boot floor and one without, the review above also shows a variable boot floor estate with the skinny spare, so it must be possible.

I was only looking at the L&K, which I forgot to mention

The car in the review (and everyone I have configured) are also L&K’s, this is from the review above:

Looking at it again I am not convinced the std boot floor is dropped down any, so I’m not sure why the (125/70/18”) skinny tyre is used.

Spare wheel codes are PJA / PJB. Using adobe acrobat to open up the PDF file version of the MKII Brochure shows that all the option codes are in the document, in the pricing section, but are in white text on a white background. This lets SKODA create an internal dealer version of the brochure to print whilst the standard one goes online with the options hidden.

PJA is "Temporary space saver spare wheel (for 17" or 18" wheels)

PJB is "Temporary steel spare wheel for 16" wheels"

Therefore I am assuming that's the same in the MKIII spec, at least I hope so as that's what will be on my order placed today.

I'll try and post the pages with the option codes visible - the MKIII brochure does the same but doesn't list the wheels individually like the MKII one does.

Nice theory chadlington but unfortunately the photos above (#24) are from an SE L Executive and the review and photo #28 are from an L&K, both are a 190 TDi and both have 18” wheels, other than trim level the only other difference is the L&K has a variable boot floor and the SE L Executive doesn’t.

Also, my S II SE has 17" wheels but a 16" non space saver steel spare.

As did my Elegance... 225/40/18” wheels and tyres on the car yet a 205/55/16” spare wheel and tyre.

Had a look around the hatch 190 SE L Ex grey/business grey or whatever they call it metallic fitted with the 19 inch wheels.

It does fit those wheel arches well.

Looked at an SE L Executive estate yesterday. It was on 18" alloys and It had the full size spare, and an ordinary boot.

on the subject of the boot, if you dont order the optional retractable parcel shelf what do you actually get? (on the Estate)

One you manually retract? Slap it once to retract it slightly, slap again to fully retract?

The "option" is an automatically retracting shelf.

ok that's fine - had visions of either nothing or a giant hard board shelf!

Noticed the on line brochure states that spare wheels are subject to 50mph limit.

All space savers are limited to 50/80 mph/kph as they are a different size. Plus it is a spare and must be replaced a sap.

But in reality on a car with 16" alloys it a nonsense, because they are pretty much the same size.

But don't forget that even though that may be true (ish) the way the tyre will behave will be very different due to the profile and tread width.

They are not though they now use 215/60/16’s yet the spare is a 205/55/16, surely if a 215 is too wide to fit in the spare wheel well then it’s a bad oversight when designing the car?

Page 262 onwards

The spare on my one was 205 which seems to be the magic number before the width of the tyre is too high for the viewable area of the boot.

Would it have been so difficult to make the spare wheel well 1cm deeper though?
