Superb’s available to view at the following dealers

Featured Replies

I must admit when I test drove the MIII, my thoughts were this doesn't feel much different to my MKII. However you do notice the new electronic sensors, i.e. Blind spot detection, ACC and Lane assist.

I'm sure that the electronics are more advanced than my car, the Octy 3 we hired whilst on holiday was the same, but the drive wasn't much fun.

SWMBO (again) pointed out that her Octy 2 FL felt more "fun" to drive, & that her car has much nicer door-cards, as do both Superb 2 & 3......

I'm going to have to reserve judgement until I can get a decent test-drive in the new car, but I'll be lucky to find a dealer with a 2.0TSi demonstrator

anywhere in the UK.

  • I see you're new and welcome to the forum. However, you start with a claim I would not boast about too loudly on this forum at the moment. What a piecemeal launch of a new car in the UK. In 1984 Ford

  • Saw this... made me giggle.. https://twitter.com/skodauk/status/628594640913104896 Where do they get them from!?

  • Honest appraisal:   The car was brand new (12 miles) and I was the 1st non staff member to drive it.   The hatch looks gorgeous even on a very drab day, there is a slight ‘lip’ on the rear edge of

Citygate Skoda Bushey. In black and that's all I know. Saw it today while driving past.

For those in Suffolk - in the Ipswich area, Bristos have a pair in - one auto, one DSG, one 150 and one 190, and a saloon / estate. I am not clear one the precise combinations, as was in the car when they rang ! Both are SE L spec.

Going up the coast to Yarmouth, they have an L&K 190 manual which will be registered as a demo. They seem to be doing a decent discount via carwow also !

Neither are on the road yet.

Hmmmm. A red saloon just came up my road yet my local dealer in Bath does not have one.

Frustrating.

For those near Oxford, Ridgeway Skoda in Kidlington are due to have demonstrators arrive next week.

They are also holding a Superb Launch from Thursday 10th September - Sunday 13th September.

When I spoke to my local dealer (Essex Auto Group) they told me they wouldn't have any until the launch date and didn't know anything about getting one earlier (if only for the showroom)!!

New to the Skoda range and coming from a QashQai.

They are my local dealer too, & IMVHO aren't the best.

Spirit in Harlow are a longer drive but at least they seem to have some product knowledge & the service team are good  / helpful.

I do miss Preston Motors, & hope that Lee manages to return to the fold at Walthamstow.

You could try Underwoods at Colchester - they may be in Chelmsford also - they supplied my current car !

Blade Skoda in Twigworth Glos. phoned me today to away they had a hatch and an estate available, both 2.0 diesels. they may be at their Bristol branch and available by appointment, not too sure.

Was a 'cold call' to an existing Superb owner to drum up business which I thought was interesting.

I've been talking to Underwoods, I think that they are still waiting for their 1st cars.

They can also supply cars to Preston Garages (Servicing only Skoda Dealer) in Writtle, near Chelmsford.

Bickertons in Sheffield got two saloons on Friday, must be amongst the last in the country) but regret to say that although I was banished to the car park with a set of keys to one of them I failed to record anything of value due to the stress of the sales encounter...both sorta business greyish and looked like they'd been driven through a couple of fields to get there.

I was mildly depressed (but simultaneously pleased) to note the close similarity of the interiors to the car I was trading in :-(

Still placed the order though - can't wait!

Honest appraisal:

The car was brand new (12 miles) and I was the 1st non staff member to drive it.

The hatch looks gorgeous even on a very drab day, there is a slight ‘lip’ on the rear edge of the tailgate giving it almost a spoiler look, as can be seen here (another Business Grey car but a different dealer)

this one had no rear wiper and TBH I think a rear wiper will spoil the lines of the car, the angle of the rear window and amount of metal ‘boot’ from the bottom of the rear window means IMO it doesn’t require a wiper either (I will treat the glass with RainX anyway)

I didn’t like the lack of any visible exhaust tailpipes... so that would need to be one of my first OE modifications.  :giggle:

The DSG was really smooth (as it should be, but has not always been in my experience)

Tried the suspension in ‘Normal’ mode ... VERY comfortable, even on the 19” wheels, we then changed it to ‘Sport’ and it was slightly smoother than my MKII Superb Combi Elegance was (on 18” wheels), I agree with others that it can be left in Sport 99% of the time... even over a bumpy level crossing it was no worse than my MKII and certainly was not crashy.

The 150 190 TDi sounded a little rattly (tappety sort of sound) when pushed (up hill), I didn’t look at the revs but they were not high, but enough to kick down the DSG, the 150 will not disappoint most as it is a nice drive... but it was not quite torquey enough for me.

The road noise was very quiet and refined.

The phonebox is large enough for an iPhone 6+ fitted with an Otter case, it does not sit flat, but the drawer lid will still close.

EDIT: There is even enough room for an iPhone6 AND and iPhone6+ with the drawer closed!

I had concerns that the seat squab may be a bit long for me (30” inside legs) as there are reports that the seats are larger, but I am happy to say they were fine for me.

The Xenon headlights do not have the additional 7 LED strips in them when Smart Light Assist is not specced, they are just gloss black plastic inserts with moulded strips, so they cannot just be coded on:

IMG_1073_zpsgpmr4r7h.jpg

The spare wheel well is only just deep enough for the 205 space saver wheel supplied... if you want a full width 235 spare tyre then you will need to space the boot floor up 30mm.

In summary, a very nice car and I am now almost there with the spec I want, this car has confirmed a few ‘must haves’ for me (L&K, Business Grey, 19” alloys, 190, DSG, Smart Light Assist, no rear wiper, leather) now need to see a hatch with a sunroof to rule out if I want one... oh and an estate  :D

turned out this is a 190 not a 150 as I was previously told

And I was impressed how smoothly my Mk2 Combi Elegance on 18's handles our poor roads, so that comes as excellent news. ColinD did mention they were tweaking the settings following criticism of the Press review vehicles.

Here's hoping the same smoothness will apply to the 280 which probably has most to gain from the Sport mode, though generally the rule of thumb tends to be the suspension gets stiffer in proportion to horsepower.

I notice a lack of TSI vehicles in this thread which is no surprise considering the TDI will be the most popular seller.

I suspect I'll have my 280 before one ever appears in a showroom - it will be a hatch with a sunroof, oh and a rear wiper too  :o.

I fully agree, I was dreading the MKII on 40 profile 18” rims... but I had no need to as the suspension had been designed so well that you could have thought you were on 205/55/16’s (there was not a great deal of difference I found when putting the 16” winter tyres on)

They did mention they have ordered a 280 demo, but were unsure when it would be arriving.

@Gizmo68 - does the Mk3 offer a significant step up from Mk2 to warrant a drive? I ordered my Mk2 without looking or driving one, coming from an Octavia via an A4.

I'll more than likely get a Mk3 but wondered whether it needed a drive or will I be satisfied without driving one. (150 DSG most likely combination)

I've joined the queue for a test drive, as & when they order the car. They stated that it would have to be a factory order, there aren't any 280's available in the UK.

Quelle surprise......

Thats a difficult one, I found nothing negative about the car (apart from the 150’s ‘tappety’ noise at higher revs) as a company car I would certainly be happy enough to order one without driving it, but this is my money I will be spending and I will buy it outright not on a PCP etc so I need to be 100% sure that it is the right car as I also intend to keep it for 5+ years.

I was going to wait until I had viewed an estate, but I do not need the practicality of the estate, the MKII was bought mainly because I hated the twin hatch’s rear end, the MKIII hatch is now IMO quite a looker (the rear lights are identical on both the hatch and estate) the boot on the hatch is as you imagine....’kin huuge.

I'll be close by Rainworth later today if anyone wants me to check anything out on the estate they have in the showroom ?

Thanks, fully appreciate your position in buying and I'd be the same.

I'm confident about the car but will have to wait until they authorise my replacement. Spec wise, the SE Business looks great.

Trouble with the SE Business spec is, its not available in Petrol guise. Such a shame.
