Factory Fitted Detatchable Tow Bar Help

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I have a factory fitted removable tow bar fitted to my 56 Octavia Elegance. Everything came with the car except the key for the tow ball and the much missed instructions.

My first question is, does anybody here have the same detachable tow bar type as me (http://www.skodateile.cz/index.php?pg=product∏=273&menu=%C5%A0koda|Octavia%20II(A5)|Ta%C5%BEn%C3%A9%20za%C5%99izen%C3%AD&img_b=IMG_0861_1.JPG&album_adr=/album&album_start=0) with the code K05? I would much like to get a key :-)

Another question about this model of tow bar is regarding the electrics. Does the trailer wiring connector swing down without the tow bar fitted or does it have some sort of locking system to prevent it swinging down if the tow bar is not fitted?

Lastly, could someone explain the method for fitting?  I could be wrongly assuming that it is broken by not knowing how I am supposed to fit the tow ball in the first place. :peek:

Thank you for your time,

Regards,

Can only help with the second question in that the electrics should swing up out of the way with no 'lock' as such but an increase in friction caused by a bump that holds it up.

I have to admit that the fitting of this type of tow ball looks rather odd.

And from an earlier thread, the Skoda fitted removable hook tow bars are made by Prof Svar

You may be able to download a manual from their web site. The site is down at the moment.

Remove the plastic insert form underneath the car. Insert the tow ball in the hole. Align the locking bar slightly forward of vertical and push the tow ball upwards when fully inserted. pull the locking bar towards the rear of the car. Then use the key to lock. Try and push the locking bar towards the front of the vehicle to make sure its locked in place.

I've got that towbar & it's a pig to deal with unless you keep everything well lubricated. Mine is kept in it's foam housing in the spare wheel and I've only used it a handful of times, but last time it needed an hour's work to lube the housing, the hinge of the electrics socket and the locking mechanism. The plastic plug protecting the housing doesn't keep out salt spray. If you're going to use it a lot, I would fit it and leave it fitted, but keep the drop-down electric socket hinge well greased to save yourself a lot of frustration.

Excellent images.

Did you have any instructions as I have tried yanking on the plastic cap with a pair of pliers but it is not budging as yet?

Just left soaking in WD40 for another go later.

I found this thread on Google while trying to figure out how to remove the towball from my Octy Scout. I got it out in the end, after regular WD 40, and finally today, a lump hammer. I wasn't keen on forcing it until I was sure how the locking mechanism worked. But now I know it is properly locked and safe to use.

Cheers.

Hello,

Please help me with fitting instruction for town bar electrical kit Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013) OE reference EEA 600 001 C E4. My electrical cable was removed from a similar car Octavia II 2012 and I don't know how to make the connections on the electrical panel and CAN connector. I attached a picture with my electrical cables. I downloaded the Jaeger instruction for 21220511J but the color cable codes are different and maybe someone can help me with the OE fitting instruction for EEA 600 001 C E4 or with some tips how to connect properly my cables.

Thanks a lot in advance and have an excellent day

Ciprian

Hi. I've just bought a Octavia 2013 with the same towbar. I don't manage to remove the plastic plug. Probably rusted, but is there a trick to release it?
