12v socket

Featured Replies

Just bought my girlfriend a Citroen C1 which is all good apart from a couple of little things here and there, like the 12v socket doesn't seem to work when plugging things in to it.

What could be the causes of this? Is it usually a cheap fix? The thing itself seems a bit loose and I saw new units on eBay for between £1.50-£6.00.

She doesn't smoke so doesn't need it for that but it would be good if she could plug in chargers and satnav's etc.

Thanks for any help.

Check the fuse 1st, it’s easy to blow the fuse if you plug a device in that wants to draw a bigger load than what the fuse is rated for (usually 10A)

Also look inside the socket to see if anything has shorted out in there.

If both of the above are fine then check the wiring to the socket is good.

Yup. Check the fuse

If a coin has dropped in there itll have shorted it out.

More than likely what it is.

Disconnect the plug and give it a good shot of contact cleaner too. Mine didnt work, fuse was ok, got a new unit off ebay, didnt work, checked fuse - gone, cleaned up old one, new fuse, reconnected and works...

Great thanks. The actual unit itself seems loose as i think it sort of wiggles about a bit in the holder thing around it. Hopefully I can fix it
