Need Some help with my Octavia 1.8

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I took delivery of my Octavia III a few days ago, and on the first day itself I had the amber, electric power steering light come on on the instrument cluster. I got the scan of the car done and reset that battery and the problem seems to have gone, but now the driver side power windows for some reason wouldn't go down and up automatically(one touch).

When a scan for the same was done, the result on ODIS was something to do with excessive temp for driver side window motor.

My questions are

Does the window motor have a tendency to overheat often , or this normal and I can continue normal operation?

Secondly While lowering all the windows with the remote key, the driver side window is the slowest of them all to go up and down, is this a problem or am I just being paranoid since my car is just 5 days old.

Skoda is known to have lots of problems in my country.

Any help or wise words would be appreciated

Regards

Abhi

Hi Abhi and welcome to Briskoda.

It sounds like a defective window motor to me, and as the cars only 5 days old I would be straight back to the supplying dealer with it!

Co-incidently, I was being advised about this yesterday by another forum member who kindly did some VCDS changes for me and the scan picked up some window related errors.

As your car is new the driver side window runners/guide might just a little lubrication to stop the motor overworking, as per post #2 you are probably better returning it to the dealer as you don't want to be taking off door trim, etc and in case it is the motor.

WRT the auto (one touch) I was also advised the that module may need to 're-taught' the lower/upper positions after power loss/fault. You do this by lowering the window fully, releasing the window button and then push and hold the window down button for several seconds (not sure how long or if you get a confirmation tone) and repeat for the window up by fully raising the the window and releasing the button, then pull & hold the window up button for a few seconds. Hopefully someone else on the forum has done this and can confirm the length of time to hold the button and if you get a confirmation tone.

Good luck.
