rattle at idle - lady driver please help

Featured Replies

hello

I am a lady driver so not to savvy on problems with cars but I know when my car does not sound right after driving over 100.000 miles in it,

started to hear a rattle but the car was still driveable as in 'no engine management lights' coming on.

Then on startup one morning after about a week of this it really rattled and engine management light came on with the orange coil light.  Stopped it immediately and let the AA take to my garage on flat wagon

The garage have had my car a week now and replaced one of the fuel injectors but the rattle is still there so I would not take the car until my engine is purring like a kitten again plus they want £500

this sound is a underlying noise like a tinny rattle.

I drive for a living and self employed so getting my car back on the road asap is major for me but they do not know what this sound is.

I have the 2009 skoda superb elegance turbo diesel saloon

this noise is more at idle, when you rev engine it seems to go away, then when it is at idle again it comes back, intermittantly at times but definately more at idle

something else as well it really smells of exhaust fumes from the exhaust pipe when driving in idle too (when stopped at lights etc) a driver behind me alerted me to this with his gesturing but only confirmed it really

they still have my car, called today and still no knowledge of what is causing this problem.

has anyone out there had same issues please as getting a bit desperate now and need my car back so I can get out to work again

Clogged DPF filter maybe?

If it is, I'd rather take it off and put a remap which will be a lot cheaper than buying a new DPF and fitting that.

Don't think that'd cause the EM and the Glow Plug light to come on? Sounds like it is definitely injection system related.

update for the problem with my car so far.  Two problems, the misfire was a bent conrod.  the rattle at idle I have been told is the flywheel.  getting this done tomorrow so will update if all is cured.  Shane at SWADS found out the engine problem in one day.  Engine sweet as a nut again now to sort out that rattle
