update for the problem with my car so far.  Two problems, the misfire was a bent conrod.  the rattle at idle I have been told is the flywheel.  getting this done tomorrow so will update if all is cured.  Shane at SWADS found out the engine problem in one day.  Engine sweet as a nut again now to sort out that rattle

Wonder how the heck that happened?!?

bent conrods are the usual result of water ingress via driving through deep puddles/water/crossing a ford etc, have you gotten into any water lali?

water cannot be compressed, a diesel runs at (approx) 20:1 compression. and bang.......

1 blessing is that the conrod did not break, which could have damaged the block/crank and "good night vienna" for the engine

yes that is what caused it, water damage and yes it is a blessing that the conrod did not break.

I presume that you also had repairs undertaken after the water induction qincident?

I just had the DMF replaced on our CR170, fortunately under the SUK warranty. Also had a rattle but only when changing gear.

flywheel fitted today and running as sweet as a nut now.

big problems finding what was wrong with the engine and only just got my car back and on the road after 6 weeks today.

I can personally recommend SWAD diesel specialist Shane.  He found the problem on the same day he received my car.

lali, did you mention the water ingress to the 1st garage (who had not got a clue)? i wonder if swad did a compression test, or if they had come across this before

who replaced the conrod, swad?

as i said, they arent cheap. just good

Had it happen on my mk 3 mondeo, I bought a second hand engine and swapped it
