Canton Audio query

Featured Replies

Does anyone know where the amplifier and subwoofer are located if the Canton Audio system is specified.

Anyone who has it, Can they comment on the sound quality ?

This system seems very similar to VW Passat DynAudio "Confidence" system.

Thanks.

As far as I am aware the amplifier is under the passenger seat and the sub woofer is installed in the left hand boot compartment (at least that should be the case for the estate and similar, if not the same for the hatch).

I haven't been able to listen to a sysetm yet so I can't comment on sound quality.

Taken from the press release by Skoda Media:

"A total of twelve individual loudspeakers unite in the new ŠKODA Superb for completely balanced sound. Ten are located in the doors (high, mid-high and woofers in the front doors, high and mid-range speakers in the rear doors). A centre speaker is positioned on the dashboard, and a large subwoofer with a 2 x 100-watt output is housed in the boot.

The components are controlled by a 12-channel DSP amplifier, which is installed under the driver’s seat. The abbreviation DSP stands for Digital Signal Processors, with which each speaker’s sound can be adapted to its individual acoustic environment."

I wonder how big the subwoofer is. In the Octy its a mighty 6.5" woofer :p

The sound from Canton is really great. You won't regret if you will buy it. :)

All I can say is the sound system in the superb 2 was way better than without it, £300 well spent!

£600 for canton has to be better, it has 5.1 surround, sub and centre speakers now. bit steep as an option so I bought a L&K.

Having had both the standard system and the Canton, I have to agree about the quality.  It is a bit pricey as an option though but the new Canton system has more functionality as well.

Can anyone confirm the Canton system comes as stranded equipment in the L&K MkIII?

Does the Superb III audio unit play FLAC files? My Superb II is equipped with Bolero and it doesn't

If the Superb III is able to play FLAC files, it would be like heaven for me

According to the UK translation of a manual that's available on the Skoda-Auto site, yes it does. However it should be noted that the manual isn't always correct as it's not the GB specific version. However, this thread for Octavia MkIII indicates that version does play flac, although only the .cue file support that indicates track positions within a single flac file is not supported.

None of the Superb II audio systems supported FLAC, only WMA and MP3. MDI was supposed to add OGG and AAC, but I found it too flaky and converted my AAC to MP3.

All the new (next generation) audio systems in the Superb III support FLAC and Canton, with the exception of Swing.

Bolero, Amundsen and Columbus support MP3, WMA, WAV, MP4, M4A, AAC, OGG Vorbis and FLAC.

Swing is only supplied in the base S trim. It only supports WMA and MP3 audio and can't be used with Canton. Nor does there appear to be an option to choose a higher spec infotainment.

Columbus is the only unit to support video.

MPG/MPEG, MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI.

With the exception of the old MPEG-1 format files, the maximum resolution is the same as DVD, 720 x 576. It won't support HD video playback.

AVI is just a "container" so not all AVI files will work. The most common types - DivX, Xvid and MJPEG (Motion JPEG) - are supported.

It plays Flac files for 100% :D
