Detailing your new fabia

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm soon to be a proud owner of a new white Monte Carlo(once it's delivered in September) just wanted to see what you guys have done once you take delivery of your new car like, do you let the dealer clean it and take the protective film off? Or didn't let them touch it and you clean it your self? Also, if the latter, what process and products did you use? I've always had old bangers so getting a new car is a massive deal and want to make sure I keep it in the best condition I can. Thanks in advance.

Tony

I have done a brand new skoda Octavia in white before, for a local briskodian.  Was about 4 hours work and I asked him to get dealer to do NOTHING in regards to washing etc.

It was about a 4 hour job to decontaminate it (to be fair, it was pretty good as new) give a light machine polish and stick a coat of polymer sealant on it for protection. :)

Cheers devonutopia for the quick reply, much appreciated.

Nice one I'll call the dealers and tell them not to touch the car then. What did you use if you don't mind me asking?? Take it you washed, clayed, polished and the sealed the paint?

Cheers again

snow foam

rinse

iron out (tardis not needed

wash

clay

Wash

dry

MOP dual action, I forget which polish.  Probably megs 205 as just a finishing polish

Cleaned off

Sealed with menzerna powerlock which I love at the moment.

Nice one mate, thanks for that. I'll get ordering some bits and pieces then, ready for when Monte's delivered. Cheers for your help.

What colour Monte have you gone for?

As Devonutopia states..but Ive never used Powerlock

White is a sod to get reflectivity from the Paint, so a good sealant will help

Wax gives a slightly muted shine on White or Silver

I would polish with a cleaner polish first and then wipe down with diluted IPA or Carpro Eraser before sealant

Octy09-I've gone for white Monte, just think it's the best colour to contrast the black splitter etc. Plus I've always had dark cars so thought it would make a nice change.

Cheers ChrisRs, yea I just want to make sure the cars well protected, what make of polish would you recommend? Was also looking at poorboys xp-sealant but again if you can recommend a sealant, would be great. Cheers

If you read the manual - it says don't scrub your headlights dry.. there's a protective film which covers them, so cleaning them with anything other than water is a big no no..

Cheers for the heads up skodaTDI, I'll make sure I'll give the manual a read.

Does this count as detailing .. or obsessive ??? !!

When my new motor arrived - first job was to put on mudflaps. In putting on the rear mudflaps - the rear wheels have to come off.

So - first use of jack, wheelbrace and new locking-nut adaptor.

I found that the wheelbrace is a kind of a sloppy fit in the nut recesses in the wheels, and it's really easy to scratch the wheel lacquer

with the wheel brace.

So --- I've put insulating tape - about two or three wraps - on the wheel brace, on the locking nut adaptor --- and also on an 18mm socket that's permanently in the kit now - with a 1/4" extension - for quickly removing and rethreading the wheelnuts - because it's a really deep recess on the Beam alloys.

The Wheelbrace ! :

L to R - Socket and Extension, Locking Nut Adaptor, and Brace. And of course the wheelnuts on the right :-)  (including the locking nut)

If needs must.. ;)

Just what I do...so..Yes ...LOL

I am Mr OCD so i have learn't something tonight ..... my next job.

I have a proper wheel nut socket that I use, it has a plastic sleeve on it to protect the wheels, but when I was checking the torque on the wheels of wife's new Polo, I did think that VAG and others, should think about reducing the diameter of the security bit as it is a lot bigger than my proper wheel socket.

I tend to make sure the security bolts is in the same position on every wheel, for "5 spokers" that means opposite the valve or at the valve depending on wheel design, that probably means opposite the disc retaining screw as well - has that got anything to do with obsession?

That actually sounds, kinda useful.

I imagine, it just speeds up / reduces thinking time, when removing and installing the bolts - easier to predict when you need to slot on the locknut adaptor ??
