SKODA OCTAVIA 2.0 TDI CR SE Estate DSG

Featured Replies

Hi all I have just been looking at skoda's for sale and come accross this model Octavia 2.0 TDI CR SE Estate DSG  In the write up for it the road tax is the same as I pay £30 for my Octavia 1.6! And the MPG is also saying the same as mine 64 combined! This model is an automatic and I thought automatics used more fuel. If these figures are correct it makes sense to buy one?

I'm getting 42mpg combined which is all thanks to the dsg box. Different ratios to the manual 6 speed. Petrol + dsg is a good combo, diesel isn't yet. Maybe the next generation boxes will be better.

DSG is around £140 tax and combined fuel is mid 50's irrc.

The figures you're quoting are for the manual TDI vRS.

Umm - Not new ones it isn't, I have a SE L 150 DSG 2l diesel Estate on order and the VED for year 2 and beyond is (currently) £30 per annum (115 g/km), which is almost exactly the same as the 1.4Tsi DSG. (112 for the saloon and 114 for the estate)

If you go for the Manual version of the diesel the VED is £20 (year 2 onwards) (106g/km).

Oddly, if you go for the manual version of the petrol, running 18" wheels (not sure why anyone would want to do that - but hey ho) - the VED jumps to £110

Your figures for the 2.0 TDI CR SE Estate with DSG are right although in the real world you get nowhere near that (personally I get ~40 mpg as I am mainly urban). If you have a O3 1.6 SE Estate Manual Diesel (FWD) then you should be paying £20 road tax and the official combined figure is ~74mpg on 16" wheels. Personally I would opt for the 2.0 TDI as consumption is not much less than the 1.6 TDI for the additional power. A lot of people dislike the diesel + DSG combo but I have no issues with it and would not go back to manual.

DSG was a little worse on fuel and a whole £10/year more tax over the manual equivalent.

I took a manual as I previously had a DSG equipped Mk2 vRS CR 170 and didnt like it....I dont much like how DSG and TDI engines mate but thats a v personal thing and not to suggest a DSG TDI is a bad choice.

All i would say is the manual gearbox on the Mk3 has a really nice shift action (about the best ive experienced on a manual car, quite short, v precise and not at all notchy)....I was glad to have purchased a manual but more because of my personal views on DSG equipped TDI's
