Hand brake slack

Within a couple of months my hand brake was loose-ish and has to be pulled up high (I park on a hill), at the car's first service I mentioned this...DM Keith said they'd heard this was happening to a few people, it would be £45 to fix as it's user wear and tear.

Someone else told me that this isn't right, since the car was new, they shouldn't be charging for the repair???

It's due it's second service and I haven't yet addressed it...I can get it done much cheaper but was unsure if i was allowed to use another repaier other than Skoda. Advice please! :notme:

Mine is doing it too :) Also a hill parker. To take the pressure off I also use reverse and kerb. No doubt will cost more than handbrake cable, but I don't want to find it rolled down the hill one morning either.

As to charges, depends, if not on schedule then they can and would charge for it. If it's a run of the mill and you have good relationship then they may not charge for it.

AS to other garages, any VAT registered garage can do it while you retain warranty. Same for servicing work, handy to drop that in too as you're declining there offer ;)

I've just had a second service which included "rear brake strip, clean and adjust"...brakes feel better and handbrake is much improved...only a few clicks required to fully engage. I wouldn't want to be paying "extra" for the handbrake adjustment, though.
