Octavia 280 4X4

Featured Replies

Would be lovely if Skoda brought out these bad boys...I will be there like a shot....getting all moist thinking of it!....I know there is a Superb version, but its a bit big for my liking.

Will not happen........too much chance of hurting the poor ickle Audi S3/S4 sales (wah wah) wouldn't want that now would we.

But yes a real hot version with AWD would be nice!

Such a car would steal too many Golf R sales. There are not many non-VAG 4x4 -300bhp family cars to choose from, so A super hot Octavia would just eat into premium-VAG sales.

A limited run Special Edition could be a possibility, but I doubt whether such a car would be a permanent fixture for Skoda. I personally would love one.

Only limited run special edition would be the 230 vRS

I've heard rumours about a special edition 280 vRS FWD next year to celebrate 40 years of the vRS badge, would probably have the diff too.  All speculation though.  Sounds like a very similar car to the Cupra ST, which on a dry surface is as quick as the Golf R.

A 280 AWD would be nice, but can't see it happening.  A well spec'd current Octavia is only £4k less than a better spec'd Golf R Estate (300bhp AWD), when priced up through Carwow or similar.  Not sure how Skoda would set a price on a 280 AWD Octavia, but I reckon it'd be very close to the Golf R Estate.  Given the choice, at the same price, most people would go for the Golf (residuals, badge snobbery and better internal materials).  I think Skoda would take the view that developing such a beast would be too risky to go head to head with the Golf R.

Having said that...if they done a limited edition AWD 280 Octavia, I'd probably take one!

Seriously? You have a very limited imagination, my friend. Also, I suspect you've been huffing petrol.

Over the summer various places have been doing personal lease on a Golf R Estate DSG for about £259 a month for 10k a year with £2500 down compared to the £210 / £1800 I'm on for the 2WD limey weasel. I cant see the point of a super Octavia when the Golf is so close in price.... I suppose the Octy is bigger and less chav.

Even if they did a 230 4x4 that would still be a good motor and give a bit of differentiation from the 280 Superb and the Golf R. It would get my money

Looked at the golf estate and the difference in size is noticeable, enough to put me off. Went for the 280 4x4's little brother (180 4x4) the Octy does fill a really useful size between the Focus/Golf and the Mondeo/Passat

I just love self opinionated frogs!!  it was just my personal opinion!

Cant see it ever happening, as good as it would be would never have enough mass-market appeal and of course might serve to hurt sales of the S3/R/Cupra of course.

Have to say a Superb 280 4x4 SE-L executive will make a hell of a used buy in a couple of years time I reckon, both arguably a better and even more handsome car than the Octavia as long as you can live with the sheer scale of the thing. New though....I think (and its just personal opinion) you'd have to be a bit soft in the head to spend mid-30k on a Skoda I just cant rationalise that at all myself. The 280 4x4 will in my mind still end up an epic depreciation disaster as the Mk2 3.6 4x4 did as its a very niche product.

There's also no doubt in my mind that the 280 4x4 will depreciate like a rock falling off a cliff but I would also suggest that as a brand new vehicle, in outright terms, it does offer good value if you want something that big. Look at the price of the Golf R. I know it's seen more development as a sports hatch but compare the amount of metal, equipment and refinement you are getting for very similar money. As I say, if you want something bigger and more orientated to long distance work then basing it on the Golf R drivetrain and making it far bigger and cramming it with kit for similar money is a good value proposition imo. :)

Well the wife says I'm soft in the head lol ! My intention is to destroy the depreciation curve by keeping the car for the next 60 years :-D

Sure depreciation affects practically everything quite badly nowadays so its hard to win on that front no matter what you buy.

Also absolutely I think the superb is well superb :-).....and a much much better load lugger/family do it all device than a Golf R estate....of course relatively speaking a 280 SE-L is good value for money for its size and spec but just me I couldnt rationalise spending that money on a skoda as much as I like most of their vehicles as products.

Didn't the vRS first appear in 2000? I remember going to see one of the first in dealers and I ended up buying a pre reg ambient spec mk1 octavia. It was on an X plate

Yeah, 2000 for the Octavia vRS but the 40-years thing harks back to the first 'RS' racing model in 1974, there's some more about on the Skoda UK page here.

The article below is about the rumoured 280 model:

280hp Skoda Octavia vRS rumoured for 2015

the date of the article is 2014. 280 might have been the rumour but all we got was 230  :'(
